1899.0. "Time helmet" by SHALOT::ELLIS (John Lee Ellis - assembly required) Wed Apr 10 1991 08:43

Does anyone have experience with the new Time helmet?

    Comfort, fit, coolness, insect-capture-quotient?

I saw one of these at a local store. It rides pretty high on the head,
so fit and comfort may be more troublesome than lower-riding helmets,
such as those from Bell and Specialized. This is probably the lightest
helmet I have ever seen, lighter then my Giro Air Attack. Ventilation
is similar to the Giro. The Time only has 2 vents in back, but they're
larger than those on the Giro. With those 3 big vents in front (same
as the Giro), insect-capture-quotient is probably pretty high.

Summary: probably a very good helmet, but make sure you try it on
    before buying.

    John,

I bought the time helmet about 2 months ago. I had been looking
for a helmet that was extremely cool. I was going to buy the Giro
Air Attack. The air flow through the Giro was very good. The only
problem was that they all (the ones I saw) have large amounts of black.
Climbing a hill with a black helmet is hot. The helmets are not
designed to keep the head cool at slower speeds.
Then I saw the Time helmet. The fit was fine, ventilation was
excellent and it was all white. Animal-capture-quotioent? Well.......
......I was on a screaming descent in the Berkshires when this bear
jumps out in front of me. Thought I was dead. Well, he passes right
through the vents without missing a step. yyyep.

    Norm,

Thanks for the report. The white color intrigued me, too. I can't
imagine why manufacturers tout vents and light weight, then paint
their helmets black. (Bell's another one.)

I'm so relieved to hear that the helmet is bear-safe. That's been
a major disappointment in other models to date. :-)

Ken, you're right - helmet shapes vary a great deal. I'll go out
    for a test ride.
