Funny, I was going to ask the same question. I finished building the
tandem up and took it out for a spin with one of my partners. 22mph
average for 24 miles. Can't wait for the race season to start.
Anybody have a schedule?

1858.2 | District/National TT's | USMRM5::MREID | | Thu Feb 28 1991 17:26 | 11 |
| The USCF District TT now has a division for Tandem;
I believe also different divisions for female/male/mixed.
I also heard that the NATIONALS will also have a Tandem TT
category. No idea how to qualify for Nationals (on a Tandem).
Qualification for Nationals for individual TT has changed this
year: SR men: 57:00 Sr Women: 60:00 at any USCF 40k
TT with proper measurement & paperwork.

the licensed classes? Thought I heard that they do.

1858.4 | Citizen Class in TT | USMRM5::MREID | | Fri Mar 01 1991 12:51 | 16 |
| Kevin,
Lasy year the (MA/RI) District TT was promoted by the District Rep
Tom Vinson. The was a Citizen class; in other words, they would take
your $10, and give you an 'official' time. No awards or anything for
Citizens though. We had a couple citizen riders from our club do it ...
This year the event will be promoted by Cadence Events, not Vinson.
I just put a call into Hal Miller @ Cadence Events (508)674-8921 and
got an answering machine. When I connect & get info around the citizen
class I'll post it here.
I know of many triathletes (non-USCF) that are interested in riding
just to get their 40k time.

1858.5 | DISTRICT TT info | USMRM5::MREID | | Fri Mar 01 1991 14:30 | 21 |
| Hal Miller from Cadence Events promptly called me back; here's the
scoop on the (MA/RI) District TT:
o ANYBODY can ride: including Citizen, USCF, mountain bikes, tandem ...
o Entry fee will remain at $10.
o Awards (medals to top 3) & prizes will be awarded to M/F in each
category, and within each age-group of each category.
o Three Citizen age groups will be <18,18-34,35+ (same for female)
o Tandem category may/may-not be broken M/M,F/F,M/F depending on how
many tandems show. Around 25 tandems and he'll break into 3 above
categories.
o Out-of-District (non MA/RI) USCF racers are welcome.
o Hal is working with Vinson & others to produce a "District
Champion" Jersey for the top USCF rider(s), and that rider can wear
the jersey all year, and have FREE entry into USCF races.
I'm on his mailing list, so when I get more details around the
registration process, start times, exact course (pancake course
near SMU I hear) I'll communicate.

| Eric,
Its the Bud Light Challenge in Johnstown, NY. It will be on the same course
used for the RAAM Open East in September. A must do event. No tandem; I'm
going solo this year (primarily). Hope to see you there...
Do you know about the PBP brevets?

| I forgot to mention, we did this one last year on the tandem, and I'm sure
they'll allow them, although there probably won't be a class (we were the first,
and only :^)

1858.13 | PBP qualifiers | SHALOT::ELLIS | John Lee Ellis - assembly required | Wed Mar 06 1991 18:07 | 15 |
|
The Paris-Brest-Paris brevets are a series of qualifiers for that
event. They are 200km, 300km, 400km, and 600km in length, spaced
a couple of weeks apart, starting in probably April out of Boston
and other times elsewhere (for example, January in Bamberg SC).
There is also a 1000km last-ditch qualifier out of Boston in early
summer, I think.
They are quite challenging courses, some of them - certainly the
ones out of Boston, and the 400km and 600km require fenders and
lighting. If Kevin doesn't beat me to it, I'll post the dates.
Perhaps this deserves a separate note?

1858.14 | Yes, we need a PBP 1991 note | BCSE::KLASMAN | ALL-IN-1 DESKtop for PCs. dtn 381-0731 | Thu Mar 07 1991 08:00 | 14 |
| The PBP brevets and BMB (Boston-Montreal-Boston) brevets are one and the same
thing. This year, since PBP is being held (every 4 years) its the PBP brevets.
In the three years between PBPs, BMB is held, and thus they're BMB brevets. But
its all the same events, although there's a 1000k this year only, per PBP rules.
Yes John, there should be a separate PBP 1991 note. One of us will start that
note and enter a schedule. I'll cover the northeast. John, why don't you cover
your area (or is the world your area? :^)
In the meantime, for those who don't know much about PBP/BMB, see notes:
1692.0 NOVA::FISHER 8-AUG-1990 36 BMB '90 gets underway
1021.0 DEBIT::HOLDEN 28-FEB-1989 8 BMB 1989 Note

1858.15 | TT Date Change | USMRM5::MREID | | Tue Mar 26 1991 13:18 | 10 |
| Re: .7
The Date for the MA/RI District TT has been changed from
Sunday June 2 to SATURDAY JUNE 15. Just got off the phone
with Cadence Events... seems they are still finalizing the
course (may be SMU area, or may not).
Mark
PS - This TT is open to anyone.

1858.16 | MA/RI District TT update | USMRM5::MREID | | Tue Jun 04 1991 12:59 | 16 |
| Regarding the June 15 MA/RI District TT (open to anyone from any state,
including a tandem division):
I just got off the phone with Tom Mahoney (508)339-4731 who is the
race director in charge of course maps & flyers. The course map and
flyer are not yet ready; they should be ready this week. If you want
to participate in this event, call Tom now, and leave him your FAX#
or home address.
Regards,
Mark
PS - The route has finally been confirmed; starts in Westport,MA.
PPS - the delays are partially due to getting route approval, and
Cadence Events' involvement with Tour Dupont & Mt.Washington
Omnium.

1858.17 | TT testride | USMRM5::MREID | | Mon Jun 10 1991 14:57 | 27 |
| MA/RI District TT Saturday June 15, day-o-race registration opens
at 7am, 1st rider off at 9am. Event open to citizens, tandem, USCF.
Directions to start in Westoprt,MA: (1.5 hr drive south of Marlboro,MA)
o 495(s) to Rt 24(s) (exit #7B off 495)
o Rt 24(s) to Rt 195 (East)
o Rt 195(E) quickly to Rt 88 (exit #10, Horseneck Beach)
o Right at 2nd set of lites onto Old County Rd
o Park at Westport Middle School 1/2 mile on Left.
I biked the course this past Saturday; here is my impression:
Course is "out and back". The roads have virtually no traffic and
are back country roads thru woods and farmlands. Course includes 4
90-degree turns each leg, plus the turnaround. Roads are a little
bumpy but not disruptive to aero position. Terrain is somewhat
rolling, but a 53 x 17or19 should do fine. Woodsy sections shelter
you from ocean winds, but there are some farmlands that may have a lot
of wind. This is not what I'd consider a "fast" course (rolling hills,
8 turns plus turnaround, some bumpy roads, near the ocean = winds, etc)
but it is a fun one to ride.
One will have to concentrate on constant intensity and not be too
distracted with the course itself. This is much different than last
year's MA/RI TT course.

| That's right folks! The race that Nancy and I did in Eugene has made it in the
latest issue.
Unfortunately, we were not in any of the pics (Nancy blames it on my looks, I
think it's because we were too fast to photgraph (100,000/sec shutter speed not
available). Anyways, the article really gives a honest depiction of what it's
like to race in a tandems-only stage race. Well worth the reading. Feels like
you are right there (which we were in this case).
