As a relative neophyte to the GREAT sport of cycle racing (off and on road) I have a few questions. Now that the USCF has 'absorbed' NORBA can one race off and on road with only one license or is it necessary to get both the USCF and NORBA licenses. I had heard rumors that it was possible now to race USCF races with a NORBA license (or maybe vice-versa). Guess I only really had one question, oh well. Thanks, Brian P.S. USCF license can be used for NORBA event. I don't think is vice-versa. Jim (who's back for a few days in November...)

NORBA license definately can't be used for USCF events. USCF license definately can be used for NORBA events. However....in these parts at least (St. Louis), USCF cyclocross races have a "novice" class for non-USCF license holders. So all the NORBA- only riders, be they "expert" or "sport" in the NORBA classification system, end up riding together in one big class. Last race this ended up being a bigger field than the USCF cat 2, 3, and 4 people. So whatever. We all had fun.

Friend of mine said there's not much point in buying a USCF license this time of year since they only run Jan. 1 to Jan. 1, regardless of purchase date. Does friend speak with forked tongue? Tom

This new year you can not use a UFCF license to race in a NORBA race. they are finally keeping the racing seperate. You have a choice when you apply for a USCF license to also apply for the NORBA license there are on the same from. Plus it is cheaper to apply for both at the same time than it is to apply for one now and later apply for the other. Mike |
