Mount Dora is a charming little town, Northwest of Orlando. Many
orange groves, lakes, and some of Florida's largest hills. This is a
very popular event, and the hotels fill up fast.

1733.1 | ISO Sunshine | GUCCI::MHILL | Carpe Diem - ride, ride, ride! | Thu Sep 20 1990 13:07 | 7 |
| I rode the Florida Safari last year. It was great. This year's route
looks like it could even be better with a little less problem with blue
haired old ladies in land yatchs.
I'll be in St. Pete. in December. Keep me posted if you see any rides
in the Tampa Bay area around Christmas. I let my membership in the
SPBC expire and no longer get their newsletter.

1733.3 | Florida ride ideas needed | TINCUP::MFORBES | This Space Intentionally Left Blank | Tue Oct 23 1990 11:57 | 11 |
| A friend and I will be in Florida arriving on 09-November. We are bringing
our bikes and would like to solicit some input as to where to ride in Florida.
We will be arriving in Orlando and will have a car so travel is not a problem.
We had originally planned to do the Bicycle Safari but due to knee problems
decited that 6x70 miles may not be a good idea. We will be looking for rides
in the 30 to 60 mile range. Any good riding in the Keys or Everglades?
Eagerly awaiting ideas!
Thanks,
Mark Forbes (CXO)

| Sounds like you're a roadie but this this may help... ;^)
Two pretty highly discussed rides are at the extream south end of the
state. FLAMINGO is at the far south-west corner of the state (not in
the keys). Flamingo is not really a town but the terminus of a two
lane windy through the Everglades - featuring many scenic stops to look
at birds, avoid alligators etc. you can park at the Everglades
National Park entrance and ride down and back on the same little piece
of hiway (rt 27). 40 mi one way. NO RESTAURANTS IN FLAMINGO!!
Rt A1A along the keys is rated the most scenic hiway in the state (at
least my official Harley-Davidson map says so). Figure the whole thing
from Key Largo to Key West at 80ish miles. Good ride is Marathon Key
to Key West (45ish miles-one way). Plan on spending time at "Sloppy
Joes" at Key West (Hemmingway's old haunt). Getting around Key West is
a drag by car so bikes and mo-peds are common. P-town, Mass is a good
comparison (geographically and size wise) to Key West. TONS OF
OCEANSIDE EATERIES!!!
My favorite is just a ride along A1A anywhere in Florida. From
hOrlando you can pop east and see the Cape (Canaveral not Cod) and drop
south or north. A1A and the various "Oceanside Blvd" rides are great.
Plan on exploring instead of making time.
Hope this helps a bit...
