1018.0. "Summer 88 in Europe" by PMROAD::QUERCIA () Mon Feb 27 1989 14:23

I spent this past summer, from the fourth of July to September 25
biking through Europe alone. It had been a trip I had been daydreaming
about since I was about FIVE..and I finally did it. Some of the
traversing I did was through the Black Forest in Germany (Whew!)
from Munich to Vienna ( a record breaker for me) and from Florence,
Italy to the Riviera coast to Cannes just in time for DECworld.
I also biked through England, Holland, France and spent a few weeks
soaking up the sun in Greece. It was an extrememly challenging
trip both mentally and physically, alot harder than i imagined,
but I was prepared so I made it. I'd love to do it again but probably
not alone. I think that made it much more taxing. I never got
lonely, but when problems arose (mechanical, weather-wise, illness)
they were magnified. Has anyone done a trip like this? I'd like
to hear about it and compare notes.

Here are some of the longer European and British trips I've done:

    	Munich-to-Nice (890 miles, 9 days)
    	Britain End-to-End (1125 miles, 9 days)
    	Munich-Provence-Munich (17 days)
   	Munich-Tuscana-Munich (9 days)

I've always stayed in inns or B&B's and had quite good luck, on
the whole. If you have questions or would like to hear more,
just shout. Sounds like you (.-1) had a great time!

Hmm. Munich to Valbonne. Does DEC pay the corporate mileage rate when
    you go between European sites?

Alas, no, and I was somewhat disappointed that there were no showers
in the facilities when I reached VBO. As you can imagine, by then,
a shower would have come in handy. :-)
