985.0. "did anyone else play hooky today" by PAGODA::HETRICK (George C. Hetrick) Wed Feb 01 1989 17:11

YAHOO!!! It's spring. Temperatures in southern NH and northern MA were in the
mid 60's today. I, for one, played hooky from work, and got in my first century
of the year (all right, it was a *metric* century), and it felt wonderful to do.

I had a CLD to keep my attention but I did take a long lunch, complete
with "I wonder where that road goes" and "hmmm, now do I go left
or right" and wandered around Groton-Pepperrel for a few hours.
Well, let's see what Punxatawny Phil says about winter today.

I fro one didn't even dare allow myself to go outside during lunch
yesterday, since I just *knew* that I wouldn't be back.

Why couldn't the boss have been out of town yesterday instead of
    today?
985.3Is Spring Fever a disease?BRAT::SMITHNever say never, I always say.Thu Feb 02 1989 12:1615
I became ill at about 11:30am (it was so sudden). Perhaps
it was the ever-menacing Spring Fever! My doctor (myself,
in this	particular case) highly recommended an immediate
excursion on my Mountain Bike. As much as I objected to
the idea, I took his advice. I must confess that I'm glad
I did. The ride was excellent! I discovered a few things.
One is that I wish I could afford to retire now. Another
is that when your tires sink an inch or more into muddy
sand, the rolling resistance is incredible. And what ap-
pear to be harmless puddles, that actually have a sheet
of clear ice on the bottom, are quite slippery. But hey,
that's part of what I like about Mountain Biking - never
    	a dull moment!

I took the day off, (sheduled in advance of course) and got my fishing
gear and my new DIAMOND BACK ASCENT EX and went on my first journey
through the Pine barrens of southern Jersey to one of my favorite
pickeral fishing spots. The fishing wasn't great but the weather
    and the outdoors were fantastic.

Like my new bike alot. I'm also ready to retire, wish I could afford
    to do it now.

It was reputedly 80 degrees in Charlotte. I was in Reading in
meetings. Fog, 40-55 degrees, dampness on the roads, a wrenched
shoulder and banged up knee from sliding into the hotel.

Of course I did make it back just in time for a predicted plunge
to rain and highs in the 30's.

    	John,

Is this a new sport, i.e., sliding into the hotel? Sounds
    	dangerous.

Dangerous, yes, but you really make an impression, believe me!
