>>>Do you have a plan to improve BUS performance of GIGAswitch/ATM?
Yes, there is. Contact Ranjeet Sundan (NPSS::SUDAN, or [email protected]),
he should be able to give you some info.
>>>Why does BUS of GIGAswitch/ATM use CBR service?
This is the easiest way for the GS/ATM to create a point-to-multipoint link
within the confines of the switch. Our switch implements CBR service using a
schedule table (this table provides very deterministic service -- great for
CBR traffic). This very same table is also very useful for setting up p-mp
connections because the switch can "schedule" the multiple destination points
and thus will have no contention.
hopes this helps,

I can understand clearly. I think the reason is reasonable.
Do you know that how do the competitors implement BUS of
LAN Emulation Server?

I don't know for sure but I've attended presentations by FORE Systems
(ForeRunner ASX-200 and -1000) and by IBM (8260) advocating the use of
external LANE servers (Intel-based) for reasons of better performance.

| My personal opinion is that high-speed LANE services run best on a
external PC, one that is running Windows NT.

I think so. It is good idea.
I know that Interphase's ATM NIC product supports LANE services on
WindowsNT. But I cannot test it because that I don't have it.
I hope that ATMworks will support LANE services.
