2498.0. "Geneva Auto Show 7-17 March" by LEMAN::CHEVAUX (Patrick Chevaux @GEO, DTN 821-4150) Thu Mar 07 1996 12:15

Visited the Geneva Motor Show this morning. Show is open till 17-Mar
    included.

    World premieres

    	- Jaguar XK8, the long awaited E-type replacement is here, of
course it's a DB7 with a E-type bonnet, no brochures on the stand
I left my card and they should mail me one

    	- Renault Megane Scenic, minivan, nothing to do with the Espace
seems to be built on the new Megane platform

    Major points

    	- Crowded places: Volvo (new S40 and V40), Mercedes, Japanese world
Opel, BMW (they have a McLaren GTR and a Z3)

    	- Strangely the Ferrari stand was empty (usually you have to use a
          periscope to see anything).

    Interesting things

    	- VW's New Beetle looks ready to run. No indication on availability
    	  or prive. Fun car.

    	- Renault are showing a similar (not as attractive) design called
the Fiftie. Looks a lot like the 1948 Porsche-designed 4CV. Fun.

    	- Lamborghini Diablo Roadster. 1st time I see the real thing.

    	- Zagato Raptor or Velociraptor, quite a thing to see.

    	- Lotus are still there, even if their owner is having trouble with
Bugatti's future. A couple of Esprits and a Elise are displayed.
The new V8 for the Esprit is present, nice little engine.

    	- No sign of a Boxster on the Porsche stand. Probably getting near
the official launch (Franfurt, this fall ?)

    	- MGF on the Rover stand. Beautiful.
