Hello, everybody here a note from the Netherlands. I'm thinking of importing a classic car from America. The problem is the import taxes. Inside Europe: none and from America to Holland 10% import + 17,5% VAT over the total ammount of money. My question is: Is it cheaper to ship it to another country first (e.g England) and import it there, and then transport it to holland. What are the rates in other countries? Or could someone tell me another way to do this. (Or: does someone have an Austin Healey 100/6 or 3000 in good shape,LHD at a reasonable price, in Europe he or she wants to sell??!) Greetings Derk

I think if you import a car more than 25 years old into the UK it is tax exempt. Cheers Nick

Ex US LHD 3000s are often for sale in the UK. Although a lot cheaper than original RHD cars they still cost a lot. -John

There is a monthly car classified magazine called Top Marques which advertises top quality cars, in the UK and Europe, including many US import left hand drive cars. If you buy one of these, someone else may already have paid the import duty. Graham_S |
