2338.0. "Audi Quattro starting problem" by MKTING::WILSON () Mon Nov 14 1994 10:42

Coupe Quattro 2.3 (5 cyl)

Car difficult to start, but goes superb when it does.

I have changed the plug's, but to no avail.

Other possibilities: faulty rotor arm, blocked injectors(doubtful), dodgy
distributor cap....air and fuel filters both clean.

Anyone out there got anything to add, which may help me solve this problem. ie
subtle cold start valves, electronic/fuel "thingies"

Thanks...John.

    John,

I've just recently started having the same problem with my wife's C-reg
    Quattro-coupe.

Like you I thought of the things you mentioned - but wondered if it may
be a thermostat setting, mind you the ignition makes an unusual sound
when you turn it, but once going OK - and still drives great (despite
    having done 104,000!!

let me know if you find out your problem!

Car is in with a specialist today.

Advises that it is almost certainly a combination of two common problems:

1) cold start value faulty...which explains why it won't start very well in
   the morning!

2) heat from the exhaust system rises after switch off, vapourising the fuel
in the system, making it more difficult to start from warm. A heat shield
   should be fitted

Anyhow, I'll post in the results next week, as the car is due back at 5pm this
evening.....hopefully producing even more grunt and starting better!

John
