1848.0. "WSCC 1993" by ULYSSE::CHEVAUX (Patrick Chevaux @VBE, DTN 828-5584) Wed Jul 29 1992 18:51

The current thinking is to merge:

    - 1992 3.5litre WSCC cars (Peugeot, Toyota, etc ...)
    - 1992 European Cup cars
    - GT cars

The definition of GT cars is still being worked but here are the
    guidelines:

    	- production level (200 cars ? total ? per year ?)
    	- 450bhp max power

Candidates: Porsche 959, Ferrari F40, Lambo Diablo, Jag XJ220

If they lower the minimum production level they could get XJR15's and
    Venturi 400.

At the recent FISA meeting in Heathrow, Gordon Murray was present and
    actively discussing rules.

We may see McLarens in the GT class !
1848.2Race length?EUSEBE::STURTTotally wiredMon Aug 03 1992 14:007

What about race length? Still a feeble 500km or a return to 1000km?

By the way, Mclaren will have to do something with their astonishingly
    expensive white elephant.

The annual grand FISA convention took place last week (7/8/9 Oct) in
Paris. Very few things to report except:

    - Max Mosley re-elected for 4 years (no other candidate)
    - WSCC definitely cancelled with no complaints from the traditional
      WSCC champions (Peugeot, Toyota, Mazda)

With no WSCC championship we're back into the ENDURANCE racing with a
few 12h, 24h, or 1000km races (Le Mans, Daytona, etc ...). Rather than
having to comply with the stupid WSCC rules each organising club will
have its own rules like in the good old days. Le Mans should see the
return of the great cars that have made it so famous. No more 3.5 ltr
    bodied-F1 things anymore.

Welcome back GT and endurance racing !

So what sort of vehicles will comply for Le Mans now then ?

    F40/Diablo/Bugatti/XJ220 ?

Anything to prevent the 'F1-cars-with-bodywork' from continuing ?

    No connection there then! :^)

The rules released by the ACO a while back included things like the
F40/Diablo/Bugatti/XJ220s as well as cars complying to the 1990 Group C
regs (Turbos/Stock blocks/3.5s/whatever, but tied to fuel consumption
regs - I don't know whether fuel consumption was part of the ACOs
rules), enclosed bodied F3000 cars (known as Le Mans Spyders, a generic
group, rather than a specific model), plus IMSA.

More or less open house as in the old days.

Mark has summed it up perfectly.

    .5 >> F40/Diablo/Bugatti/XJ220 ?

Yes. F40's are already racing in Italy. Several Bugatti customers have
asked the factory to have their car prepared for Le Mans. Don't know
about Lambo and Jaguar. Several Venturi 400 will be there too.

A couple of F40s also race in the UK. Never seen a Diablo racing,
though and I've never even seen a Bugatti or XJ200!

PS If the plans come about you'll probably see a Marcos racing at Le
    Mans in 1994!

    Patrick,

These racing F 40's, are these the factory made LM's or are these
privately sponsored F 40's that have been individually prepared.

I'd love to see the factory get behing the F 40.

I've seen some of these supercar races on sky or whatever satallite tv
channel it was . The F40 looked like the the LM type. I say that based
on the windows, The normal road going has plain glass door windows, the
LM type has the perspex type windows with the sliding panel. And also
the LM has a distinctly different rear wing.

On the Le Mans front, a full grid would be nice. Anything is better
that the feable attempt this year. I have been going for some years and
it was very noticable the that the crowd low very much smaller. Poor
Weather or not , it was very low by comparison.

.9 These racing F 40's, are these the factory made LM's or are these
.9 privately sponsored F 40's that have been individually prepared.

I haven't seen the ACO rules but I bet they will favour the
individually prepared road cars. The current thinking is to limit the
peak power to 400-450 bhp. Aerodynamics will be subject to preparation,
a minimum weight will be published (1100 kg ?)

By the way, the LM was a development that Maranello did for Ferrari
France. Ferrari never really got involved. A few months ago I had
dinner with Jean Sage (team mgr of the F40 LM team) who explained the
whole thing. Ferrari are part of the Fiat group and as such their only
area of influence is F1 and only F1. No right to compete otherwise

It depends on what F40 model you ordered and what serial number you
got. Early models had perspex only. Later models offered a choice of
glass (winding) or perspex. Air conditioning, adjustable ride height
    became available as extra.
