1707.0. "Rev that engine " by NEWOA::DALLISON (Splatterpunx on acid...) Sat Feb 29 1992 23:50

You'll have to excuse this slightly ignorant driver, but what would
you a consider 'damaging' rev rate ? Ie, are you safe if you keep below
the red or is there are recommended rate for each gear for maximum
    performance (on a 1600i car).

    Thanks,
    -Tony

You should be fine if you keep out of the red. In fact the rev limit
on many 'ordinary' cars is well below the safe limit, in any gear
(allowing for the usual 'safe when warm' disclaimer).

For sympathy, don't rev a cold engine, don't use more than half the
throttle travel and half the rev range in first gear, and change up
500 to 1000 rpm short of the red/orange.

Re: .0

Depends on the 1600i you are driving.

If you are driving a Vauxhall, they've put a "cut-out" on the engine. You
can't damage it by high revs, it won't let you.
