1518.0. "Marshalling at its best" by COMICS::COOMBER (Endurance racers do it all night) Mon Jul 29 1991 12:31
After last weekend and the praise that was leveled at the
Track doctors and the Marshalls that attended Paul Warwick I would
also add praise for those at brands hatch yesterday. During the group
a and b esso superlube saloon car race there was a very heavy shunt at
druids. I didn't see the cause on the accident , but I did see the car
which fron the damage, looked as if it had rolled, crunch the armco a
bit further down the track on the exit to druids. The driver was
obviously out cold, arms and head flapping about. The marshalls were
there very quickly and the race stopped almost straight away . Help
followed very quickly, it took some time before the drivers door was
open, but that side of the car had taken all the impact. The whole
operations looked very controlled and extreemly well organised. The
tannoy announced that the driver was ok but obviously injured as he was
strechered away with back and neck support and at one point one of the
medical team was holding a drip .
Full marks to the marshalls, I have seen some diabolical marshalling
that give a serious accident could be lights out for someone. Had the
driver been very seriously injured the marshalls speed could have saved
his life.
The rest of the meeting was faily uneventfull but the Honda crx race
with the No 1 Warwick car baring Paul Warwicks name won the race. A
fitting tribute.
