1456.0. "How many people?" by KERNEL::LOAT (Keep passing the open windows...) Tue May 28 1991 14:56

Okay, I'm organising a little outing to the London-Brighton bike ride,
but we're getting a bit stuck for affordable transport to London, and from
    Brighton.

A coach with a driver seems to be a little expensive, so I thought what
about a coach/minibus without a driver, and get a nice kind collegue to
    drive.

However, I don't know the rules about who's allowed to drive what
carrying how many people, so I thought that here would be the best
    place to ask.

How many people can a driver take in a minibus without needing a
    special licence? (PSV?)

    Steve.

17 people including driver. The driver must be 21 or over from a legal point
ov view, although most hire places insist the driver is over 25 from an
insurance point of view...

    Thanx

    Unfortunately we're taking a team of 26!

Looks like it's going to be a bit expensive.

The train works out quite expensive, and takes quite a long time to get
from Brighton. Lets hope the PR people come good.

1456.6Sponsership - that's the answer!TRUCKS::SMARTWhen you're in a hole, stop digging!Wed May 29 1991 12:0710
If it's for a charity why not ask some local coach/bus company to
sponser you by providing the transport? if there are 26 of you *and*
your bikes you will need a pretty big bus!

Talk to your Facilities Manager - he will know the local "friendly" bus
    people.

    Good luck.
