1327.0. "Hiring cars when lease car is off the road" by KERNEL::PARRY (16 bits R SXy) Thu Jan 03 1991 16:39

An interesting bit of information has been well publicised by being
mailed to everyone. I.e. the information about expenses. There
is a very interesting section which reads:

"Car rental pending delivery of a company car will be accepted,
with the cost centre manager's approval, or as a replacement vehicle
whilst a company car is off the road following an accident. a CAR
OF EQUIVALENT LEVEL TO THE ONE LEASED MAY BE OBTAINED, but Avis
may not be able to match the lease car model for model."

This implies that if your turbogtiflashjobbyjobby gets wrecked,
you can hire the exact same model from Avis instead of the worn
Escorts you usually get. Of course the reality is different.

    The reality is different?

I hope not: this is a newly phrased policy effective from 1 Jan, and I
also noted the bit about matching levels. It has been a source of
frustration and irritation (read that as something that reduces
pesonnel morale) that you continue to pay megabucks for your lease car
whilst driving round in a class A or B rentawreck.

I know I for one was frustrated when my Espace was off the road for 11
weeks waiting for Renault to supply the jig needed to do the work
whilst I drove a series of uncomfortable group B cars.

So this is new, and I am sure welcome... I certainly expect it to be
    implemented.

well the ones I hired were class B (escorts et al) - but it was at this
time that I put in some miles in an Integrale... does that count (it
    was uncomfortable).

Some-one should tell these hire companies that Escorts were in
Group 1 and Group 4. Integrales in Group A.
Group B, now we're talking (rubbish?)

But then you had to go back to something boring !!!

In case anyone is interested if for any reason your HERTZ lease car is of the
road for longer than one day then DIGITAL are not billed for the first day ,
HERTZ pick up the complete rental bill. I had previously been told that DIGITAL
always picked up the bill for the first days rental. Sounds as if things may
have changed here and there is the potential to save quiet a lot of money.

I believe the way it works is that if your car is off the road for less
than a day (ie routine service) and you get a relief car from the lease
company, then Digital will be charged. However, as you say, is the car
is needed for more than a day for mechanical repair then the lease
    company foot the entire bill.

This was discussed at length in another note, but I can't remember
    where.
