1292.0. "Superb Rover/Vauxhall garage in Alton" by SAC::DELANY_S () Fri Nov 16 1990 09:56

I've put this in a new note, because the other notes dealing with
garages date back a couple of years, and haven't been replied to for
    ages....

I can absolutely recommend Clover Leaf Cars of Alton, Hampshire, for
their courtesy, efficiency, and apparent technical ability with cars.

    Unusually, they are a joint Rover/Vauxhall dealership (!), but I detect a
distinct preference by them for Rover cars.

They have now serviced my Astra SRi at 18000, 27000 and 36000 miles,
and have demonstrated that they know just what they're doing when they
service it. What's more, they always clean the outside of the car (for
the 36000 service, they made it better than it's been since new, and
before they cleaned it, it was in a disgusting state!). They also take
you out to your car when you collect it, so you can make sure it's OK.

By the way, I have no connection with them at all, but if anyone wants
to know more about them, just give me a call (or mail me).

    I agree.

I have moved over from the Vauxhall garage in Basingstoke that no
    longer does Vauxhalls.
Clover Leaf will collect and deliver in Basingstoke so I don't need
a hire car. After talking with someone in charge, I've found out
that their mechanics get paid by the hour, not by the job. So they
do not benefit by giving the car back unfixed. I used to use a
garage where the mechanichs got paid per job and it took several
visits and complaints to get anything fixed.

It's called Great Western Motors, behind the station if you're looking
    from this direction.

Anyone have a 'phone no for the garage in .0 (save Digital 40p)?

Or recommendations of a GOOD Vauxhall garage within 50 miles of
Reading? (Great Western Motors need not apply).

    Thanks,

GWM have metamorphosed into Wadham Kenning, and seem to have improved
considerably in the process. They are on Portman Road.

I went into Wadham Kenning last night to look at the Astras and
Novas. The Customer service desk was very helpful and I would recommend
it to anyone wanting a new or second-hand vauxhall(They also have a few
other models e.g.MG metro,Escort,205's etc)and quite reasonable prices.
They offer an extended warranty of up to 2 years,(but that'll cost
    $300.00 and$175.00 for a 12 month warranty.)The cars are fully serviced
    after you decide to purchase.

    	ALL in ALL not bad.
    I'm going back!

    	Hello
I've just got off the phone with my insurance company as
I was looking for a quote for a Renault 19(what a painful experience.)
The insurance company decided to quote me a huge figure(But i am only
    18)	I suppose your wondering what this has got to do with a vauxhall
note?? well i'm currently driving a vauxhall Nova 1.2l 1983 model
car,and i'm thinking of changing it within the next 6 months,i have
around 5500 pounds to spend. As this vauxhall has been good value
,can any of you that drive Astras,Novas or have experience with
vauxhalls please tell me what is a good buy.(bearing in mind i'm 18
and i only have one years no claims bonus)

    	Suggestions please!!!!!

I drive a Nova GTE, and will shortly be driving a GSI....not exactly what you
are looking for I think...but...

All the Novas are reputed to give good value, and are a good quality small
car. The newer Novas are x00% better than the pre-1988 novas, almost a
different car altogether.

I don't think you will get much of an Astra with 5500, but you should get a
pretty decent later model Nova, even a 1.4 if you hunt around.

i'd take two if only my insurance wasn't so high, nevermind
    		Thanks anyway!

    Any other vauxhallites out there?????

    The choice is yours, either:

    Older car, big performance OR
    Newer car, small performance.

    e.g - F-G reg 1.4 Merit/L Astra, price = 4700, insurance = 800-900.
    OR - C-D reg 1.8i GTE Astra, price = 3500, insurance = 1800-1900.

Personally i'd go for the GTE.

What, even with 1 years NCB? I'd try another broker.
Even better, why not take a risk and go for TPF&F?

I'm currently driving a H reg Nova 1.2 and I quite like it. Its nippy
enough for around town, and is no slouch either. I quite often take it
up to Newcastle and get around 38-40 mpg, at 85 mph.
With regards to the Wadham-Kenning garage, I had a little accident
a couple of weeks back and have just got my car in there now. They pick
up and deliver, but they also keep a supply of Courtesy cars for
customers. They took mine away this morning and delivered a brand new
Carlton for me while mine is in the garage. When they have finished the
work they will be cleaning and valeting the car for me. They also won't
let me take the car back unless I am 100% happy with the car.

Am I right in assumming that Wadham Kenning does not have Rover
franchaise? Can anyone recommend a good rover garage in the Reading/
Wokingham area where they really do service your car.

    Thanks,

Wadham Kenning will come to DEC Park, pick your car up, service it and
then bring it back to DP.

I've just had my car serviced by them. Seems ok. Water levels were
checked and topped up, car cleaned and they were very polite on the
    phone.

    No complaints.

    Service no. is rdg 394394
