Also, try using Hammerite (the exterior version). It may be expensive but it
really does work !. Not only does it 'eat' existing rust but you can guarantee
you won't get rust in that same place again.

Rust ! . It's only a matter of time..
I hear there's a guy in DECpark who buys rusty Jap cars, runs them into the
ground , trades them in and makes a profit !. Can't think of his
name ?.
But I agree with -1, Hammerite usually does the job. Once you've
treated all your rusty area's give the whole car a good coat of WAXOIL.
Steve. :-)

1095.4 | | ANNECY::MATTHEWS | M+M Enterprises. Thats the CATCH | Wed Jun 06 1990 15:29 | 5 |
| Interesting !!! For some time now I have been aware that most of the
Classic Car type magazines are sponsered by the company who produces
Hammerite and WAXOIL.
Now it looks like it's spreading to this conference :-}

| re -2
Steve, the aforementioned green machine was losing bodyweight at an alarming
rate. This was advantageous since the power to weight ratio was increasing
daily. A few more months and I'd have had a car with Lotus 7 performance :-)

| In a recent Which? report Waxoyl didn't come out particularly well.
I think Corroless (and maybe one other which I can't remember) came
out best buy.

1095.7 | More questions on rust removers | NSDC::SIMPSON | Two faced commit | Wed Oct 24 1990 22:05 | 13 |
| What areas of a car are these sorts of rust eating products suitable for?
I've got a touch of rust on my wheel sills and between some of the body panels
on my VW van - and would like to improve things before the onset of the
cold, salty Swiss winter. I'd prefer to keep the aesthetic appeal of my
combi ( :-) ) and not have a splotchy finish.
Can you repaint on top of these sorts of products - is the surface smooth,
and will it take paint?
Cheers

1095.8 | Swiss survey of anti-rust guarantees | NSDC::SIMPSON | Two faced commit | Wed Oct 24 1990 22:43 | 63 |
| As this seems to be the official rust note, I thought that I'd include a review
by the Swiss TCS (AA/RAC equivalent) of what they thought of the anti-rust
guarantees offered by the major manufacturers.
This survey may be of interest to the two people in this notes conference who
actually buy their own cars (and earn less than 70,000! :-) )
Cheers
Steve

Comments:For cars which get a bad rating (4.1-4.8), you must observe the
checks strictly - or invalidate the guarantee. In the case of the cars
regarded as very bad (5.1-5.10) we recommend that you have the
car treated with an anti-rust agent. This applies in particular to Alfa
Romeo, Mazda and Nissan which are very vulnerable to rust. We do not have
enough customer examples to comment on Chrysler, Hyundai, Isuzu, Lada, Seat
and Rover.
