1070.0. "Lease car for take over" by SUBURB::DUCEP (Slowly we change the world.....) Tue May 15 1990 07:54

Is your New Lease due shortly, not sure about what you want
to replace your old car with yet?
Need something good to pull the caravan this summer?
Or would you just like a change of car for 6 months, before
    	your new one?

Anyhow would anyone like to take over the lease on a Carlton GL2.0i
Estate, really low mileage? Metalic Blue, and all usual extras:-

    		. Heated Miirors
    		. Electric Windows all round
    		. Tow Bar (dual electrics)
. Very Low mileage (15,000 genuine miles!)
		 etc,
6 months to run on the lease (end of December) @ #1,300 pa

Viewing/testing can be arranged in the
    Reading/London/Basingstoke area

You can contact me, Peter Duce on 7 830 3066 (c/o Joanne
    Alderman) or 7 847 6379

I took over the lease partly as a favour and partly because
it suited me, however my circumstances have changed since then.

There is a possiblity that the leasing company may want to
sell this car now ... given a buyer, so if you fancy buying
it, it may also be an option.

1070.13Cavalier 2.0i L to take over (moved by mod)CYCLIC::TURNERWed Jan 20 1993 09:4123
There doesn't seem to be an appropriate note for this and It doesn seem worth
starting a new note so I thought this might be good place for it.

As of tomorrow the car I am currently using will be available for takeover:

Vaxhaul Cavalier 2.0i L

Driver Price 258 pounds.

I took it over after my GT Turbo was stolen last year and have to admit that,
although it feels a bit stodgy to me it's a good car.

The car is due for a service in 200 miles ( 18000 ) and has no major problems.

There is a vibration through the steering wheel at motoway speeds, I tried to
eliminate that by having the wheels ballanced. Unfortunately this did not work
because the wheels appear to be not quite round ! ( the chap who was ballancing
the wheels told me that this is a common problem with Vaxhauls. ) I have
approached Vaxhaul about this but as it is not a major problem I decided to get
it checked at the next service ( that would have been next week ) but as my
new lease is arriving a week early I wont be able to.

I read .15 as offering his car for a take-over, and not asking to get one.
Or maybe not.

re .16; that's good forward planning, innit? Get a new car mid-May, and
final working day August 1st.... Or is she leaving of her volition?

(And to absolutley clear, I am not getting at the employee at all,
but "the management's forward planning")

1070.28How does it work?BAHTAT::HILTONBeer...now there's a temporary solutionThu Aug 12 1993 14:209
I assume you can only take over someone else's car when your lease
    comes to an end?

I guess there's no way of taking someone elses car over and 'handing'
    yours back?

    Wishful thinking,

    Greg
1070.29KERNEL::SHELLEYRThu Aug 12 1993 14:4017
    How does it work?

In the past few years it has works like this.

If you want to change your car you have to first find someone
to take it over. You can then takeover a car that is already available.

If there is a more expensive car for takeover you may be able to swap
for it (esp if its in the same cost cenre) so that the expense is less
for the cost centre (who has to continue for the lease).

The bottom line is that we are asked to choose a car that is suitable
for the next 'n' years. So its our short sightedness if we need a
change in mid-lease. I guess the exception here was when they extended
the standard lease period from 30 to 36 months.

Your manager can allow you to change cars if you there has
been a significant change in your personal circumstances. I
swapped my Pug 205 on the grounds that it wasn't a suitable
family car (it didn't need to be when I ordered it). Of
course, this is at your manager's discretion.

I am about to relinquish a much appreciated and enjoyed MR2 T-Bar as it has
come up to end of its lease. In my next move I would like to accomplish
two things; firstly to flick the proverbial birdie at car fleet as I
would rather have daily sessions of red-hot herbal enema than drive a
Vauxhall (no, I am neither French, nor a snob), and secondly, there may
be some poor blighter who has been told that he/she cannot give up
their car unless they find a person to takeover their car.

My request is for a similar car. Ones that I have been looking at are the
MR2 GT-TBAR, Mazda MX6, or Honda Prelude, or like.

Well the agro is over, I am now the happy owner of a Renault 19 16v

The Renault feels more responsive steering and power wise but the

O.K. Things are getting pretty desperate now as the time runs out on my
beloved MR2. Not to be outdone, I set about doing calculations for
opting out of the scheme and getting my own motor. Being a young
pipsqueak living in London with on-road parking and three points to
boot, reccceiving the insurance premium quote was about as comfortable
as the aforementioned herbal enema (or driving a Vauxhall, depending on
    the season).

I am now looking for anyone who wants to relinquish a Golf GTI (MK
III). The three MK II's available on the takeover list are extremely
attractive, but obviously would prefer the new model.

The car is great very quick when driven hard (and handles well) and as

The rules when you order a car is that you should choose one that
will be suitable for the length of the lease. The only reasons you
can put it up for take over is if you have unforseen circumstances
(ie you can't afford it / family expands and you need a bigger).
I believe it is a local decision with your manager.

The 1478 is cost to user on the old scheme, so you have to look at old
allowances/supplements....

Under level 8 there was none, so real cost was 1478 (You're getting a good deal!)

Level 8/9
---------
8/9 had an allowance of 1300 so cost to user was 1478-1300 = 178

8/9 now has an allowance of 3560 so cost to user is 3910-3560 = 350

Old lease better by 172

Level 10/11
-----------
10/11 had an allowance of 2200 so rebate to user = 2200 - 1478 = 722

10/11 now has an allowance of 4460 so rebate to user = 4460 - 3910 = 550

Old lease better by 172

Sorry to be a bit of a downer on this one but when the old scheme was
converted to the new scheme there was an imaginary 2950 added to each
price. So for example a car that cost 1000 on the old scheme would
cost 3950 on the new scheme but there would be no change to your pay,
just the numbers change. Hence your 1478 will become 4428 or
thereabouts to a level 7 or below on the new scheme. The old scheme
doesn't exist anymore so you can't have the old price, unless you know
    something that we don't :-)

This is why cars on the takeover list are appearing at higher than new
    prices (e.g. the Astra GSi).

    tp
1070.67What are the rules?SLPSTK::ILESMike Iles - Business Partner Development AssistanceThu Feb 17 1994 10:4620
I think the figure of 2950 should be 3400, which makes matters worse!

However, the fact remains that above level 7, if you wanted a lease on a
Frontera 2.4I now, then it would cost you more than this is costing me.
In fact if it wasn't for overriding personal reasons, I'd be crazy to change
it. Why shouldn't I be able to transfer that cost as is?

So does anybody actually know what would happen?

It seems to me that if this car were to change hands to another individual
(above level 7) that none of the figures should change. I'd have to accept a
car under the new scheme, (and accept being worse off), but the overcompensation
I was receiving on the old scheme could be transfered to the new individual at
no cost to DEC - they are paying it if I don't change the vehicle!

If he were charged the 'new' lease rate for an old lease vehicle, then DEC is
suddenly making more money out of the lease of that vehicle. (Heh that might
be a way to improve the quarters figures!

    Mike,

    A quick attempt to answer.

The 'New' supplements for all levels were revised under the new scheme,
against the target Vauxhall for that level.

It was stated, that until your circumstances change, i.e, change car,
swop car, or change level, then you will pay the same and Digital will
match any difference that there may be.!

So, unless you want to pay more money, keep youir existing car.!

        Exactly! Thanks Huw.

By saying "Having had mine stolen, I'd really like another one"
the author meant that he'd like another car to replace the one
he has unfortunately lost. However the sentence could be
interpretted as "I'd really like another one, because they get
        stolen".

I was try to imply (to humourous effect) that the author
intended the alternative meaning. Of couse, if you have

Well I've just spoken to car fleet and you're right, they say that
anyone who rings will be told there are no cars available for
    takeover, however....

car fleet have also just told me that my car IS available for takeover

It has been agreed by my manager, HR and car fleet that my car is
available for takeover and if anyone is interested please contact me
directly as car fleet seem confused to say the least!
