959.0. "F1 COMPETITION 1990" by VOGON::DAWSON (Turn ignition on - Turn brain off!) Wed Feb 14 1990 07:51
Hello everyone,
Well, I gave it a lot of thought and decided that I WOULD do another
competition because, although I am not so good at the predictions, I enjoy
the thing! However, I am NOT going to spend as much time this year doing
race reports and snippets although I will try and keep the results and
points tables uptodate (I will give you the address and telephone number of
Motoring News and/or Autosport if you are that keen!).
The F1 season starts off this year a little earlier than usual on the
11th March (US GP) so I will kick this off now. Predictions in to me before
that date. I am not going to chase you for either your entry or your money -
if you don't get either in on time then no deal! Paul Hibbs kindly offered to
help me by collecting the monies from US participants so I will take him up on
his offer.
The rules still seem to be working quite well with the winnings being
won by (mainly) two people so sections 1 and 2 will remain unaltered. I will
change section 3 (most wins) to stop everyone sharing the pot by choosing
Senna!
1. Entry Fee remains 10 pounds (sterling) or $17 (at today's exchange
rates. Fees to be forwarded either to me (in ) or Paul (in $).
I will accept cash or a cheque made payable to my account at :
Lloyds Bank, 44 Market Place, WANTAGE OX12 8AR. OXON. ENGLAND.
Bank code 30-99-11 Account number 024.7409 (7 ciphers)
My mailstop is REO-F7/B10 (this has changed since last year).
Paul Hibbs will have to make arrangements for anything other than cash
but sending cash through the internal mail (in a plain envelope or
Confidential envelope addressed to the recipient inside an inter-
office envelope) seemed to work quite well. Paul's DTN is 521-4193,
his Internal Mail Address is WRO1-1/B31 and his Node is
JULIET::HIBBS_PA.
2. Each entrant must predict :
a) the first SIX in the Drivers Championship in the correct order
b) the first SIX in the Constructors Championship in the correct order
c) the number of G.P. wins each driver will score in the year
3. Send your predictions to me to arrive here no later than Saturday 10th
March. The first race is Sunday and I will NOT accept entries after this
date. I do NOT need your entry fee by this date but please forward it to
Paul or myself as soon as possible.
4. When the official Championship positions are announced, the total kitty
will be split as follows :
a) 50% to the person with the most points in the Drivers Championship
prediction. Points are awarded as follows -
- 5 points to every driver named who finishes in the top six
of the Drivers Championship
- PLUS a bonus of 9,6,4,3,2, or 1 if the correct driver was
named in the correct position.
b) 35% to the person with the most points in the Constructors Championship
prediction. Points are awarded as per the Drivers prediction.
c) 15% to the person who most accurately predicts the drivers who win the
races throughout the season. You score one point for each driver's
win that you have predicted (see example below).
5. In the event of a tie in any category, the proceeds for that particular
section to be split equally.
EXAMPLE :
Joe predicts Senna, Prost, Alboretto, Piquet, Berger, Modena in
that order. Actual Drivers Championship result is Nannini, Prost,
Senna, Piquet, Modena, Berger.
Joe scores 5 points each for Piquet, Berger, Prost, Senna and Modena
= 25 points PLUS a bonus 6 points for predicting Prost in 2nd place and
a further 3 points for having Piquet in fourth place = 34 points.
The same method is used for the constructors.
If the race wins were predicted as Senna 6, Prost 3, Berger 3,
Nannini and Mansell 2 each and actually Senna won all 16 rounds bar
one which was won by Nannini then Joe would score 6 + 1 points
6. The official running order and calendar of the 1990 World Championship
is appended to this message.
Please direct any queries, predictions and *monies* to me as follows :

location REO-F7/B10

Cheers and good luck,
Colin
PS I shall be making my prediction shortly and will keep you all

959.1 | They're nicking our notes! | SIMD::KENNEDY_C | E=M3 | Wed Feb 14 1990 14:59 | 7 |
| It seems to me that we are very close to losing all possible Porsche
numbered notes. This one's 959, 911 was taken up with something
completely different, can't remember what 914, 917, 924, 928 and 944
were about.
Is there any chance 962 might be made available?????

959.2 | While you're here... | VOGON::DAWSON | Turn ignition on - Turn brain off! | Thu Feb 15 1990 07:34 | 7 |
| Sorry to "nick your note"! Didn't realise the significance (Citroen
only go up to double figure numbers!). Now that you're here, any
interest in winning yourself 100?! Suggest you keep a window open on
this conference and "bag" 962 as it comes up - or else write some
drivel into 960 and 961!!
