Seen in VOGON News :- * More than 2000 crews have applied for the 1990 Pirelli Classic race from London to Southern Italy. The race features pre-1965 cars. Please could someone post details as, and when, they appear for this event. It's usually run at the beginning of July, starting from Tower Bridge in London. I would be very interested in knowing what the route is especially the Alpine sections as there may be the chance of seeing the cars in action. Look forward to some kind soul(s) keeping us posted. Thanks

Talking to one of last year's competitors made me want to do it. This year the limit is to cars manufactured before the end of '65 rather than on models still in production at the end of '65. I also know that the BBC sent out a full crew for two weeks and all I've seen so far is 10 minutes on Top Gear - surely more must follow? Dave

The first Pirelli Classic was filmed and presented by Chris Searle (of Thats Life and In At The Deep End) and shown on BBC2. So much interest was generated from that that it prompted the full crew and works following last years. I'm pretty sure that the programme has been broadcast by now, but if it hasn't is there any chance of a videotape of it when it is? Or at least some pre-warning so that I can get the folks back home to do it ? The original programme was excellent with lots of beatiful cars and some marvellous excentric competitors (who can forget the guy who competed in the Mk II cortina with the navigator in his *seventies*!), so the prospect of being in the right place at the right time to see them doing the hairpins up the mountains (somewhere in Italy, but I can't remember the name) is too much to miss. Looking forward... Tony.

Have just got a Video about the 1989 Marathon. Its great fun to see it and to dream about participate. May be next year. One of the most interesting sections is the "Passo Stilvio". I remember some main stages. First stage was a museum in Belgien, then Nrburgring, Speyer, Hockenheimring, Meran, Stylvserjoch (Passo Stilvio), Meran, Passo Gavia, Penserjoch, Cortina. This is all I can remember for the moment. |
