Interesting discussion in my Ethics in Management Class the other night... Had nothing to do with Ethics, but the instructor made an interesting point about how Automobiles are built in various parts of the world.... Americans....build cars that have poor fit, low tolerances, and require a lot of sheet-metal/self tapping screws to hold the together. Europeans....build lots of parts to a little closer tolerances than the Americans, and then match parts up that fit nicely for each car. Japanese....build many parts to exact tolerances that always match up to form a nice car, or are rejected and scrapped. Gil (Born in the UK....living in Albuquerque, New Mexico..)

As all generalisations it's truth is only relative. You'r not compairing countries but production methods! These a.o. depend on production numbers, the type of product or market they are aimed at but also on local production means. See India p.e. And what about history? Look at the UK, it is part of Europe but... My point of view is that you have to evaluate each product on its own merits in the light of its intended purpose. Peter | |||||
