910.1 | Good, but not supposed to be as well rounded as Rover 21x series. | TASTY::JEFFERY | Ring Carlsberg Customer Complaints Dept. | Mon Jan 08 1990 16:07 | 11 |
| Looking into one, they look quite nice. However comparative reviews of the
Renault 19 with 1.4 energy against Rover 214 GSi go in favour of the Rover
in most departments, and comparative reviews of the Renault 19 with 1.7 against
Rover 216 GSi, put the Rover in favour again. From what I can gather, the
main differences are better visibility (Renault has metal rear quarterlight),
better handling and ride, better performance, and I think, better economy.
I've been looking with interest on the Rovers in the hope that a Rover hot-
hatch will come out in time to replace my Renault 5 GT Turbo.

| AT LAST !
I've got a R19 TSE, and I was beginning to think I was the only
one in the country. (Next time you go for a drive, try comparing
the number of 19s with the number of Porsches, for example). I can't
say how it compares with the Rover, beacuse I'm not really interested
in cars, but I can give you some impressions. I haven't gone over
45 MPH in it yet, so I can't comment on what it's like at speed,
but it's quite handy in London
FOR: Quiet inside
Comfortable (get the Ergonomic Pack option - adjustable
steering wheel, seat height, etc)
Turned up two months EARLY (Cf. 6 month wait for Cavalier)
Large boot for its class
AGAINST: Rear visibility restricted (but you get used to it)
Not much headroom (frankly I don't think anyone over
6' would like it)
Gears a bit notchy
Apart from that it's a bit early too tell, but I'll post any
developments in this conference.

910.3 | Renault at your peril...... | CHEFS::CLEMENTSD | Public Sector and Telecomms | Tue Jan 09 1990 11:11 | 19 |
| Having just driven a 21 for the last two years, I definately can't
recommend the seats if you have even a suspicion of back trouble.
You can't set the squab to throw your body weight onto the pelvis
and the squab itself is too short to support the whole of your
upper leg. I think that the natives of its country of origin must
have pathologically short upper legs if any survey was done before
design.
I have a Savanna and as a load carrier it's the best of the bunch
of estates with three rows of seats.
Economy wise I get about an average 30-32, a bit less round town
and up to about 38 on a long run at a steady 70(ish).
Beware, though, the quality is a bit low (tacky manufacture) and
bits keep falling off and the dealers round here all rate about
minus 17 on the competence scale of 0 - 10

| re .0;
DERV prices willcome down again at the end of winter - they always do..
You should see a price differential of 5p or so against unleaded by spring.
I.e. Diesel 5p cheaper...
Peter. Who nearly choked when I saw Mobil flogging DERV at 189p a gallon
this morning - but not to me, at that price!!

| Shell (I think) are decreasing the price of DERV by 9p (my dad read
this in yesterdays Telegraph (I think).

The Mobil station near the Crescent has chopped 10p off the price of
diesel, it's now 179p/gal...
That must be the shortest lived price increase for a while!!

| Thanks for the info, I've just asked for a Fleet quote on a 19 GTD
Chamade...It looked good at the showroom and felt reasonable on the
road. I'll tell you more when (or if) I get one.

| I'm 5 feet six tall, 29 inside leg (no boast ).
I've the 19 TXE 1.7 I need the ergonomically adjustable seat at its lowest
setting else I'm close to hitting the roof.
A six foot colleague couldn't adjust it to fit him.
Otherwise : steering a little heavy in town, visibility not as good as
some in its class.
Concave side panels attract dirt..but then I never did like washing
cars.
Superb on the motorway, no hands at 90..
Love the gadgets...radio stalk is a real safety feature.
Seats for me are supportive.
Ferry travellers across channel should note it is over 4.155m
Others in its class just slip under 4.0m. thats a 20% fare difference
with the new rules.
