900.1 | I think it was the MX-5 | GIDDAY::GILLINGS | Have we fixed it yet? | Tue Jan 02 1990 23:10 | 4 |
| Andy,
Sorry, no review but I think it's just won a "car of the year" type
award of some sort here on Oz.

900.2 | Reserve me one!!!! | SPYDER::BRISTOW_A | | Wed Jan 03 1990 09:22 | 16 |
| I have managed to read a small article in January's AUTOCAR, who
have managed to see this car.
I understand from various press cuttings that is will be quite a
bargain.
Around the 14,000 mark. Not bad for a sporty Mazda.
Well I await the first reviews on the car and then treck down to
the garage and grovel for a road test!!!!
Are they selling the Mazda down under yet ???
How many "$'s" for the ownership documents ?????
If it's a good price I might consider a trip... Business of course.

900.3 | Spotted One! | YUPPY::PATEMAN | The Prince of Destruction | Wed Jan 03 1990 09:35 | 6 |
| I spotted an American registered one poodling along the M6 just
before Xmas. It looked OK, but to me looked too Japanese, particularly
from the back. It did remind me of the old Elan though and had a
very neat looking hood.

900.4 | Is it a replacement? | CRATE::WHITTINGTON | Snarling on both tiny cylinders | Wed Jan 03 1990 09:40 | 5 |
| I have not seen or heard of this one yet, but I always loved the old
RX-7. Is this to be its replacement? Does it look anything like the old
RX-7?

900.5 | Not a replacement. | CURRNT::SAXBY | Isn't it 5.30 yet? | Wed Jan 03 1990 09:46 | 14 |

Re .4
No. The RX-7 is alive and kicking in Turbo Convertible form these
days.
The idea of the MX-5 is to revive the simple, affordable sportscar
of the Elan days. From all I've heard of Elans, I can only hope
that the MX-5 hasn't inherited some of the earlier car's quirks.
Or maybe they were what made the Elan so memorable?

FYI - I had a drive in one in the U.S. last summer. A bit gutless with
all the emission stuff the U.S. insist on and the U.S. version comes
with air-conditioning - on an open top car !?!?

900.8 | it's weeeeny ... | YUPPY::COLEMAN | | Thu Jan 04 1990 14:31 | 7 |
| I sat in an MX-5 at a motor show in Texas in October ...... seemed
VERY small inside (probably ok if you're used to an Elan) and the gear
lever's like half a pack of ROLO's ..... i think I'd prefer a 90's
X1/9
