| BASINGSTOKE PETROL,
The Best place (cheapest) I have found is Sanisburys own station,
adjacent to their superstore, they are usually 7 - 10 pence cheaper
than anywhere else.

Re last. The Garage outside DECpark is now selling Diesel at 49.9p
per Litre (2.041 per gallon!), can't say I notice the price of petrol.
Re a few back. Unleaded Petrol does NOT mean lead free - only
Diesel is totally lead free! Unleaded petrol only has none (well, lets
be honest - very little added - yes, it's true!). So Diesel is much more
environmentally friendly than unleaded or leaded petrol. As has been
written before, because less Diesel is burnt in a given car than the
equivalent petrol version, proportionally less Carbon Dioxide is
produced, hence less greenhouse effect. Also Diesel produces very
little Carbon Monoxide due to the much more efficient combustion
process. Nitrous Oxides produced are much lower than the equivalent
petrol version, hence Diesels are not normally fitted with "Cats"
although as a previous note mentioned they could be.
The only real objection is the smell as far as I can tell.
With the advent of Turbo-Diesels, the perfomance is in the same
ball park as the petrol equivelant car, but the economy is in a much
better league. Not only that, I'm seeing in new car price lists, that
the Diesel variant of some cars is actually CHEAPER than the petrol
version!!! This I'm told is due to the ever increasing cost of
de-tox'ing the petrol engined car with fuel injection (standard on
Diesels of course), Cats etc. etc. Don't ask me which make 'cos I
can't remember, but I think it may have been the Citroen ZX range.
The latest Statistics for car sales show that Diesel cars accounted for
no less than 12.5% of the total last year, compared with 1% 10 years ago,
so a lot of people are getting the message!
Regarding the price of Diesel fuel, there isn't a public outcry
every time the price goes up, simply because it is a minority interest,
only 1 in 8 cars sold are Diesel. Hence the oil companies can exploit
the market more easily!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Malcolm - with a vested interest. 8^)
