Here is what hopefully is a quick question. What is involved (assuming it is possible) in registering a vehicle for road use that has not been type approved. The vehicle in question is a cross country working flat bed truck with a two person soft top cab, Volkswagen 1800 cc diesel engine, 4 wheel drive and runs on 31x15.5R15 Avon Tredlite tyres. It has an articulated chassis (that is to say that if the vehicle were off the ground the rear axle could be rotated 360 about an axis longitudinal with the vehicle whilst the front axle remains stationary and drive is maintained to all wheels). Top speed is 30 mph, transmission is 3 speed automatic. The vehicle is an RTV truck (as featured several times on "Tomorrow's World") If it makes any difference it could be registered either by me personally or in a company name. The truck is not a kit: it was manufactured completely by RTV Ltd. /. Ian .\

Did you ever get an answer. If not, I might be able to suggest a workaround. NR

Well, I got an answer of sorts. If I were a farmer or had a business in an approved list of agriculturally related industries then I could register it as a farm vehicle. Otherwise if I can prove that I need it for my business then the firm (not me) can register it as a works vehicle and it can be driven on the road to move from work-site to work-site. However in the general case I don't have a useful answer - workarounds gratefully listened to... /. Ian .\

Ian: I'll contact you by MAIL. Nice to see you back in England, by the way. (I know I'm a bit late, but I've been away for a few months). Regards, Nigel. |
