791.0. "SuperGreen availability" by THATIS::LINDLEY (Strewth mate.....) Mon Oct 09 1989 14:36

I have (at last!) recieved from Peugeot the news that my car can run on
the extra high octane "supergreen" unleaded petrol now available from
    some outlets.

Can anyone tell me where it is available from in the Berks/Oxon area?
Do motorway filling stations stock it?

I've just order a new lease car that the manufacturer says will run quite
happily on either unleaded or leaded providing that the unleaded petrol is a
minimum of 95 octane.

Is this the standard octane rating of the unleaded gas you can buy from any
garage ??

I'd appreciate it, as I'm sure others might, if some well informed bod could
list the different types of gas available and their associated octane ratings.

Cheers,

Rich

Well "Supergreen" is definitely at least 95 octane. "Euro", as
sold here in Holland, Germany and other countries is also 95
	octane, so the blurb goes.

I would imagine that virtually all unleaded sold in the U.K. is now at
least 95 octane. Try reading some of the handouts they display at most
	garages nowadays.

yes, unleaded is 95 octane....about the same as the old 3*

4* and supergreen is about 98 octane....

RE Gordon's answer: In Holland there is Superplus, which is 98 octane
    leadfree fuel.
This however may give the impression, one could run it on a lot
of cars. Beware, that lead is used to "cool" valve seatings.
Older cars still will need leaded fuel, because valve seatings are
not prepaired to operate w/o lead.

What is the current price of Supergreen compared with 4 star?

The low-octane unleaded is now about 15p a gallon cheaper than 4
star (I think) at the local garage. Is it worth hunting down a
garage selling supergreen for the Marcos, or is it going to cost
    more than 2.29(ish)?

.....are the cheapest I've found so far at 2.15 for super unleaded, but if it
wasn't on the way home I don't think I'd bother looking. Anyone found cheaper?

    Kind of related...

Has anybody done any comparisons between normal unleaded and super
unleaded? Is it really worth the premium?

Depends (a lot) on the car.

There is no perceivable difference with the BMW 320, but the 328 has
quite a performance boost. I'd try it as see.
