thought I'd add a new note so that at least some people saw it.....
For the proportion of you, like me, who have headroom problems in most
modern cars fitted with standard sunroofs (especially electric ones),
take heart: I have discovered that several of the major car
manufacturers (Peugeot and Rover for a fact) do what they call a
"delete option" on their cars; i.e. if the car comes as standard with a
sunroof, then you can order it without one if you wish.
This goes against what I'd previously been told: that if the car came
with some option as standard, then you couldn't delete that option.
This puts a whole different complexion on what car I might order next
time, because I'd far rather have air-con than a sunroof; most of my
driving is on fast backroads or motorways where sunroofs are too noisy.

| I made this point earlier in #1228.56 (which is the "giants" note, do we
need another one ?)
Stephen, I guess this is a follow on of your interest in the Rover in
#327.118.

Related to loads of other notes.
Why add a new note 'so people see it', as they will also see it if it
is a reply to an existing topic (old or new).
Or is there a way I can disable viewing certain topics, even if they
are 'unseen' ?

| Some of us 'expert' noters might need to be reminded that in the dim
and distant past we too didn't know about SET SEEN!. It's not commonly
known that this is a way to circumvent reading every one of the million
previous notes so give people a break.
It's also difficult to reference a topic when the subject doesn't
appear in the base title! (I've now added the word Sunroof in!)

| Further to .26 regarding "delete option" sunroofs.
I was talking to a Rover salesman at the w/end. He said that the delete
option was available on all models that come with sunroofs as standard,
but the delivery time may be longer. On a 200 series there would be a
discount of 200 if you have the sunroof deleted (or "not installed" if
you prefer). The difference in headroom between a 214 Si (which has no
sunroof) and 214 SLi (which does) is amazing.

PS Did you know that to buy a rear spoiler like the one fitted to the
Twin cam GTI would cost 600 notes ???? (I thought a 3-dr Si with one
of these spoilers would look quite smart)

Typically disproportionately expensive. If it is a plastic moulding it
probably costs about 50-70 to manufacture, the rest is profit.
Some years ago someone did an analysis of the differences between a base
Ford Escort and an XR3i. They figured that it probably cost Ford no more
than a few hundred pounds more to build the XR3i. The price difference
was much, much greater.
Like any well-organized business it charges what the market can bear.
