| Why do you want to insure ICE?
Surely when it melts all you have to do is put some water in the freezer and
make some more.

| Hi Craig,
I did notice the following news in the May-Jun 1991 edition of f.fwd

Autoleck of Welling, Kent, have announced the launch of their Pro-Fit
Series of in-car entertainment systems. Each is supplied "complete with
free insurance to cover replacement of all the system in the event of
theft". The insurance cover is valid for three years. Package prices
range from 500 to 1400
:
:
Prices include nationwide installation and insurance cover. Autoleck can
also arrange insurance cover on existing audio systems valued from
500 to 2000.
'fraid I haven't done any more about it, except keep it concealed and
added wanting a quick-release cage to my resons for upgrading the
front-end head unit in future.
Try calling. I was quoted about 20% of the value as annual premium from
someone who I have since forgotten.
Best o luck,
Robert "touch wood".

| Noticed this page advert in the Sept/Oct 1991 issue of Car Stereo and
Security (f.fwd):
Autoleck Is You Car Hi-Fi Insured?
We can insure your System on three years cover for as little as 190
Autoleck, 144 Upper Wickham Lane, Welling, Kent. DA16 3DP
Tel. 081-854-9762
Any Make, any Model, anywhere.
I phoned for a quote. I was asked only for the total value of my system:
Total value: 1000, cost of cover for 3 years is 231 (paid
up-front).
I asked for details to be sent, but for about 80 a year, it sounds like
it might be worth the peace of mind.
Robert.
p.s.
I was not asked where I lived, what car, or if it was alarmed as I
thought I would have been.

Sounds very expensive to me, but then again it is probably very high
risk.

| Mine had a clause that would cover ICE if I chose to take it, and the premiums
were MUCH less than you've been quoted - about half a pecent per annum I think.
Seperate insurance policies like this are always more expensive than inclusive
ones. Another example - cycle insurance is much cheaper on your household
policy than on specific bike insurance policies.

That depends, I could not get my household insurance to give me 'all
risks' on my bicycle. I tried several companies, and although one said
they would cover it, they changed their minds when they found out I
raced it...
So this might mean that your ICE won't be covered if they find out you
play Iron Maiden :-)

| Saw in one of the Sunday papers that Kenwood is offering their
CD changer system for 450! Plus 50 off for your current stereo!
Bringing the price down to 400 for a 10 disk changer system - what
a wise PR move!
With this system you get a tape deck, radio and 10 disk changer.

| I listened to the KRC-452(or is it 453?) radio/cassette bundled in this
package. I wasn't impressed by the cassete performance at all, for a player
usually priced around 180.
Strange, the Kenwood budget decks have been getting really good reviews,
perhaps it was a dodgy example on display in the not-so-good shop I was in.
Still bundled with the 10 disk CD changer for 400, it sounds very good
value. Now what should I do with the 50 left out of the UK bonus payment
next month? 8-)
Regards,
Rob.
