532.0. "Austin Healey 3000" by COUNTY::WATSON (When the going gets weird...) Tue Apr 04 1989 09:40

Who saw "The Great Chase" last week ? I saw it on video at the weekend. Ahhh...
that's my idea of a summer holiday. Thrashing old rally cars over some of the
best roads in Europe.

I'll admit I did like John Atkins Cobra, but ohhhh... the sound of Chris
Chathams Heally 3000 works replica as it powered up the Stelvio pass. Pure music
to my ears. I kept winding back to the bit where you had the roof top mounted
camera on the 3000 as it reeled in the slower cars on the straight bits, the
roar of that big six with it's side pipes, the whine of the race 'box on the
over-run... it sounded FANTASTIC !!

Anyway... my mum told me the other day "You know, they're making Austin Heallys
again... the ones with the stickey up lights". I assumed that she meant frogeyed
sprites ( not my favorite car I'll admit ) but it turns out she meant the "Big"
Heallys. Now... my mind started working... how much ? where from ? are they
'original' or kits ? what standard ? etc.. etc..

Does anyone know of this 'new' car ?

If not, anyone know much about the original Heally 3000s ?

532.37Pirelli Classic 1991.NEWOA::SAXBYAye. When I were a lad....Wed Aug 21 1991 16:5519

As a follow up to this note, did anyone (with a satellite TV) watch the
recent coverage of this year's Pirelli Classic?

The programme was made by the same people who made the one discussed
earlier, but the approach of the competitors was totally different.
In the first PC, the competitors were (nearly) all enthusiastic
amateurs out to have a good time, but now most top teams employ
proffesional drivers. The idea of the two young blokes who had rebuilt
a written off Porsche (for the first Pirelli) getting into the top 10
    now is impossible.

I think that's a pity, but the sight of these cars (Minis excepted) is
    still stirring.

Unfortunately the programme (which was videoed) has now been taped
    over.
