You can either take the A33 towards Winchester (ie. the old road) and
take the right turn on the dual carriageway that runs beside the M3
signposted Micheldever Station. Or go M3, A303 -- just past Popham
airfield on your right, take the left turn again signed Micheldever
Station, and keep following the same signs (there are a couple more
teurns to negotiate that I can't remember), but it's very easy.

Micheldever Tyres is literally alongside Micheldever Station. It's
probably about 20-25 minutes from here BUT there's usually a small
queue so allow enough time for the job to be done. They're good and
    cheap (for good quality tyres).

I first went to this place some ten or more years ago when
they specialised in doing discount high performance tyres
and operated from a couple of tin sheds in a difficult to
	find field.

Yesterday I went to get a set of tyres for my MR2. Well it's
much, much bigger now which is presumably the result of being
so competitive. I found the service to be excellent and the
price couldn't be beaten. Has to be the best place to buy
	tyres.

    Re .4

If you have the new shape MR2 make sure they put on the right compound
of tyres if they are the Bridgestone tyres. I had my tyres replaced
about two months ago and specified I wanted Bridgestone Potenza tyres
put on. They said they had these in stock on duly fitted the new tyres.
After driving around for for a few miles to 'scrub' any oil, dirt etc
from them I went for a blast up the A303. I got to about 80 MPH and
still accelerating when both tyres decided to 'let go'. Nigel Mansell in
Adelaide would have been proud of the way I managed to keep the snaking
    car on the road.

I pulled over to look at the tyres and discovered that they had just
stuck on normal Bridgestones. I went back to complain and pointed out
that I had asked for Potenza tyres. The pointed out that they didn't
have any in stock and that it would take weeks to get a set for me. As
the old pair were illegal all they could do in the meantime was
rebalance the tyres (1 tyre had to be rotated 180 degrees on the tyre)
and pump them up to the correct pressure, their original estimate was
.2 bar less than recommended. I spent the entire weekend tiptoe-ing
    around on my dodgy tyres.

To Micheldevers' credit they phoned me 2 days later to say they had
managed to get hold of a set of Potenzas' which they fitted that day
for me. The difference in grip was immediately noticable. One of my
colleagues who had a puncture and had to have the rears replaced also
had the same thing done to him though he went to ATS to have his done.
He couldn't believe the change of grip when the incorrect tyres were
    put on.

I spoke to Toyota about it and they said the only tyres they recommend
are the Potenzas. They also pointed out that the best check to do is
look at the compound markings near the rim. There should be a 'CZ'
    marking somewhere along there.

Mines a 1.6. Original equipment Continentals 53 pounds inclusive
of valve, fitting, balancing and VAT. Some people quote over
	that as the base price.

	-John

PS. I reckon it takes at least 50 miles to get the 'shine' off of
	new tires.

On a more mundane note, I used them this week to get new front tyres
for my wifes Nova 1.2L. They offered by far the best price, and their
service has always been good in my experience.

I went there 4 years ago (on the recommendation of the author of -.1) and found
their price and service excellent. Only problem was that (one year later) I
'found' that the van tyres they had supplied were 2 plies light (I guess that
they were for a Volvo or some such vehicle).

Mind you, this was better than some mob on Cardiff Road, Reading who supplied
me with something rated for a milk float (not faster than 45 mph)!

As of Thursday 10th September, Micheldever Tyres' phone/fax numbers are :-

    		Tel	0962 774437	(4 lines)

    		FAX	0962 774572

I went there to buy a pair of A008's on Saturday. Price and service
still seem very good. They did also spot that one of my wheels had
some cracks in the inner rim. Worse still, that wheel had been welded
at some time in the past - presumably to 'fix' some other cracks !!!

Needless to say, they wouldn't fit a tyre to that wheel (nor would I
have wanted them to), so the spare was used instead...

I hope that all tyre fitters pay special attention to the condition
of wheels, as the cracks could have been quite easily overlooked.

We need two tyres for the front of the Espace. They lasted 21k which I
thought was good but we were in for a shock when they came off.
The insides were almost down to the carcase!! Apprently the tracking
was out by a long way and as neither of us had kerbed it must have been
    like this since new.

Any way the same tyres were specified (Michelin 195-65x14 MXT's) and
got a price of 53 plus VAT which was 13 cheaper than elsewhere.

Micheldever tyres have the reputation as being the cheapest around
but if you can't get to them don't worry.

Kwik Fit will match any tyre price. They will actually phone
Micheldever for you and get their price and match it.

This happened to me when I enquired about tyre prices at Kwik Fit in
Basingstoke. The guy there said noone can beat Micheldever for prices,
checked with them and matched the price straight away.
