1042.2Galway bound!HYDRA::CORRIGANIf u'll be my Dixie Chicken...Thu Apr 03 1997 15:257
     I'm planning a trip "home" this July. I'm not sure how best
    to arrange tickets. Directly with Aer Lingus or through an agent.
     Anyone have advice?

    	cheers,
     	Bob

1042.3What does "best" mean?ICS::MORRISEYFri Apr 04 1997 15:2319
    re: -1 Tickets to Ireland (from Boston, I assume?)

    	Hi Bob,

    		There was (and I think still is) a company in the Boston area
    called Brian Moore Travel (or Brian Moore International) that is probably
    the "biggest operator" of travel programs from Boston to Ireland.

    	I'd look for their advertisements in the Globe or try to get a
    phone number for them.

    	You're request of "how best to arrange tickets" is not clear on
    what "best" means -- most convenient to you, least expensive air fare,
    least expensive  air-fare-with-auto-and/or-accoromdateion in ireland,
    etc.

1042.4I'll see if they're out on the WEB.HYDRA::CORRIGANIf u'll be my Dixie Chicken...Mon Apr 07 1997 16:4811
     Thanks for the pointer Dennis.
     I'm looking for air fare only. By best I mean most convenient I
    suppose though if I can save a few bob in the process, so much
    the better. ;^) After all, the price of a pint has gone up since
    I was there last. Was 1.70.

     And from Boston is correct.

    	cheers,
     	Bob

1042.6Shannon Airport is losing out.ESSB::KILBANEWed Apr 16 1997 09:4615

    Hi Bob,

    I believe that most Aer Lingus flights form the East Coast are destined
    for Dublin Airport, they all used to stop off at Shannon once. If you
    are planning on landing in Shannon you would probably need to stipulate
    this.

    My brother who is flying from Chicago has to fly to Dublin, not by
    choice.

    regards

    Des

1042.7Strange politics, that!HYDRA::CORRIGANIf u'll be my Dixie Chicken...Thu Apr 17 1997 09:0213

     Hi Des,

     Thanks for the tip, I don't fancy the drive from Dublin that's for
    certain.
     While we're on the subject of Shannon Airport, what other airlines,
    if any, fly there from the East Coast of the U.S.?
     And, what strange policy is it that Shannon is passed over for a
    destination such as Dublin?! After all, everyone knows it's Best in
    the West! ;^)

     cheers,
     Bob

    Hi Bob,

    As far as I know, Delta run flightS to Shannon from East Coast (New
    York, Atlanta, not sure about Boston). Some US charters fly also.

    Up to about 4/5 years ago all Transatlantic flight had to land in
    Shannon and then fly on to Dublin. Up to that point there had been
    intense pressure on Irish Govt. from vested interested in Dublin and East
    Coast, including politicians, Tourist bodies, Chambers of Commerce etc.
    The Govt. finally relented and now most US flights go direct to Dublin
    though some then go on to Shannon, I think.

    If you need any further info I will try and check it out for you.

1042.9I should pull a Wrongway Corrigan routine...;^)HYDRA::CORRIGANIf u'll be my Dixie Chicken...Thu Apr 17 1997 12:2110

     Thanks Des, I'll check out the situation with Delta and the charters.
    Travel without booking a Tour package is a bit of a pain.
     Seems a shame they couldn't stay with the stop in Shannon then on
    to Dublin route.

     Slainte,

1042.10$549 RTN with Crystal Travel. $738 Aer LingusHYDRA::CORRIGANIf u'll be my Dixie Chicken...Tue May 06 1997 10:1010

     Well, after looking into flights to Shannon I've booked
    through Crystal Travel. Their fare for August was $549 return
    as opposed to Aer Lingus' $738 rtn.
     The only "problem" with the charter was the fact that they only
    fly on saturdays which meant that we had to stretch our trip
    from our planned 10 days to 14. Oh, the hardship!
     Thanks for the help lads.
