| What from I understand, if you into Readers Choice in VTX you can
access the Historial Announcements and there should be an article about
volunteers to help install networking equipment in schools. Find the
author of this article and contact them.
I am trying to get the specific name right now, but am not having luck
finding the information in Readers Choice.
At least this is a start.

How about trying our new telephone answering system
(is it 1-800-DIGITAL?)?
I bet they can steer you to the right sales office.

| Re -.1: The program you are looking for is NetDay. This is a MA-statewide
program in which volunteers from computer companies are installing network
wiring, hardware, and software in public schools. Not all school districts
are participating. There are a few strings attached, but most school districts
who have looked into it decide to sign on.
The name is sort of a misnomer because it is not a one-day thing. It is an
ongoing program in which they periodically hold special "days" on Saturdays.
Phase 1 was last fall, with NetDay being Oct. 26. Phase 2 is going on now, with
NetDay being Apr. 5. There will be a phase 3, but I don't know much about it.
I sense that your school district is getting started too late to be part of
NetDay, but it's worth looking into. It could save tens of thousands of dollars
compared to having the work all done by contractors.

Many people feel that Digital is on another planet. There is a group at MSO
that is coordinating Digital's volunteers for NetDay, but I have had some
problems dealing with them. If anyone wants to volunteer, I suggest you read
the Digital and public NetDay Web pages (I will find the URLs if you need them)
and contact the school district of your choice directly (or the Digital volun-
teer coordinator for the district, if there is one).

I believe I am well versed with NetDay and it is not what I
am asking about.
I am wondering if there are any programs through which an employee
can help create a sale or enable a special deal for their local
school district, or any information like this.
NetDay is a privately organized program supported by state government
that offers schools that already can afford to install networks
to get volunteer help and special donations from Mass companies.
Sun, for example, is offering hardware to a few schools near
its facility. Digital is not offering any free hardware
that I know of.
We have plenty of volunteers that are willing to pull wire
and install the network in our local grammar school. In about
2 years we will be installing a network in a major renovation to
our high school. But these 'many million dollar' renocations take
years of planning and architectural work and once set in motion
they are hard to deflect. The architect is speccing out the
network, and right now its ALL COMPAQ....all Pentium.
I'm wondering how to get Digital involved with the network piece.

| Plugged Digital and NETDAY into the AltaVista search engine...
Resulted in us being on a Netday Superlist. Complete with contacts.
Though this may now be dated.
