hello: read through all installation and release notes and could not find how i would be able to setup lps20 printers to load only through tcpip on VMS. i know this can be done through Unix but want/need this capability for VMS as most area 62 decnet addresses are being eliminated and we have way too many printers to be put up for WAN decnet addresses. Currently have dcps serving queues via tcp/ip and having problems where printers hang up with printer console message "deleting current job". only way to get printer back in service is to force hard/soft reboot. do not know if problem is mixing decnet/tcp on printers, but want to be able to use lpsadd$xxxx files that have tcpip capabilities. could someone point me in direction i need to take in order to accomplish this? many thanks in advance.. /tony polletta

474.1 | Will not happen anytime soon. | NECSC::HARVEY | Printserver Support- America's Zone | Tue Feb 04 1997 12:06 | 13 |
Tony, The issue of booting LPS printers from VMS via tcp/ip has come up before. It is not supported, no plans for support, etc. The only way today to boot LPS printers tcp/ip is from a UNIX, Novell Netware server, or from Windows NT. If you want this to happen then you will need to explain this to product management, engineering with the real costs and advantages, etc. Renis

Renis thanks for the reply. I understand the politics of management. do you know of any conflict of loading servers decnet and serving queues tcpip, where printers get hung up or confused, loses connection and tries to delete current job in order to reprocess it? /tony
474.3 | Its always the printers fault.... | NECSC::HARVEY | Printserver Support- America's Zone | Tue Feb 04 1997 17:14 | 8 |
Tony, We work problems like from time to time. In the ivestigation of the problem/s we find that there are bad files, broken networks, networks not configured properly. It always seem to be the printers fault though. Renis |
