554.0. "Dick's Picks 7" by EVMS::OCTOBR::DEBESS (seeking all thats stil unsung) Mon Feb 03 1997 09:42

from rec.music.gdead:

Things are proceeding nicely towards DP7, and Dick was willing to share a
little bit about the release. He said he'd be breaking new ground here in
that he was going to put out a "best of run" release from 1974. The idea
was to get the best songs from a specific run at a specific venue. He is
quite prepared for the DP purists to cry foul, but I see nothing wrong
with this approach, and look forward to it.

DP7 will be taken from the best of the Alexandra Palace shows in London.
These gigs immediately preceded the historic 10/74 Winterland
"semi-retirement" gigs. No song lists are available yet, but Dick
promises you'll hear the best playing of '74, and the definitive Dark
Star>Morning Dew jam. 3 CD's packed full of hot tunes is about all I know
so far.

'74, eh? Dick has rejoined the path of wisdom, righteousness, and joy...

(I kid. Looking forward to the '95 release he's mentioned, and more 80s.)

Easy to pick a dream show of just titles, from those 3 shows...
Including that 9/10/74 Dark Star > Morning Dew, needless to say.

In Dick We Trust (to coin a phrase).

Trying to recall if I've heard a Peggy-O as early as 9/74 -- might be
nice, if it's a good one. - JayC.

the 9/18/74 Peggy O is excellent.

Dijon, right? I remember you spun that for folks. At one point I thought
I had it in hand, but turned out it was Cow Palace and Hollywood Bowl...

Speaking of which, that Hollywood Bowl show is the nearest date to 9/74 I
have (disregarding Steal Your Face), and *that's* a fine show.

  I'm psyched. - JayC.

P.S. Anyone have any shows from the Alexandra Palace stand?
If so, what do you think of Dick's pick...?
