One per quarter would sure suit me fine. - JayC.
P.S. I forget which string already contains comment on the reggae tribute
to the Dead... This was reviewed in last Thursday's Globe Calendar.
Sounds grate, from the description -- artists carefully matched to
tunes, & everything.
Between this and the career retrospectives now coming out for Toots
& the Maytals, Burning Spear, etc., I'm priming for a reggae <->

just before I moved from Florida to Mass (the first time), I saw the

of 60's retro before I couldn't stand it anymore.

I lived in the north end of Palm Beach county with my family from '71

Bonjour,
Hey it's not happening everyday !... This is a "FrenchDEADlover"'s
reply ...
My favorite vault and DP record is "One from the vault" I think
it's because it was the first of the series i bought ...
I love very mutch the others too ... Hundred year all DP 1 & 3
and 2 from the vault ...... EXCELLENT .....
In France we cannot find "2 from the vault" How is it ?...
I hope DP4 & 5 will come quikly in our shops ...
It's not easy to get into this note from France it's to long
so I cannot read all the topics and replies ...
It's not the subject but ... When I see all the tape trees
and the list of the songs, ther's slaver flowing out from
my mouth .... I dont anderstand anything about branches and leaves
etc ... I'm very interested about "the best of Jerry" and
many others ... So what can I do ?...
Excuse me for my poor English, have a nice trip everybody ...
Bye,
Marek.

hey now Merek!
another welcome from this corner! i'm afraid i no longer have the equpiment
to make copies for you, but it's nice to see someone new here...
as for branches and leaves, the analogy is to a tree... the owner/provider
of the source tape is the "trunk" of the tree... the first level of copies after
that would be the "branches" and the last set of copies would be "leaves"...
one trunk can have several branches, and each branch can have many leaves...
comprenez? that way< no one person has to make dozens of copies< but there
are many tapes being distributed!

| Are you sure about 800 numbers outside the North America Numbering
Plan?
For some fern systems, the notion of a "toll free" call within the
country is relatively new, let alone internationally. There are other
aspects of 800 calls that probably would not propagate across gateways,
or may even violate privacy laws in other countries.
One thing you could try is to call the local access number for
AT&T and see if they will place the call (AT&T have a setup in many
countries that allows you to dial a local number and get an AT&T
operator).

529.66 | Favorite tapes = usual suspects, couple of surprises | HELIX::CLARK | | Thu Jul 25 1996 19:08 | 15 |
| Comparing "Favorite Tapes" lists between Deadbase IX and its immediate
predecessor, I noticed a couple of things...
Lots of commonality. There are 11 shows from 69-74; 3 shows from 77-8;
and 5 shows from 89-91 that aren't wavering in anyone's estimation.
Pretty much shows I'd at least heard about, except the '89 ones (10/9/89
Hampton VA and 10/16/89 3rd of 3 at Meadowlands).
Shows rapidly rising in favor seem to be 2/15/73 (Madison WI, the next
known show after 2/9/73 Stanford); and 9/26/91 (6th of 6 at Boston
Garden).
One show that seems to be less favored is 2/26/77 (San Bernadino CA, 1st
Estimated & Terrapin). Beats me (though I haven't heard the whole thing).

| For anyone 'base-free... The Deadbase IX consensus favorite tapes (viewed
another way, most likely to be overrated) go something like listed below.
I was amazed, even in the wake of the 2nd Coming misfortune, I was able to
stumble onto about a third of these (not that I could afford them) on CDs.
God bless college towns (& their radio stations too...). - JayC.

| Checking my watch...
OK, so Dick's Picks 4 was released 3/96, orderable from GDM last week of Feb.
Dick's Picks 5 was released 6/96, orderable from GDM last week of May.
Therefore, as surely as the sun will rise tomorrow, Dick's Picks 6 will be
orderable end of Aug... Dick's Picks 7 just in time for Xmas, and so on.
I suggested to a GDM gnome a Dick's Picks subscription series... They
ship each new DP volume automatically to me (and other customers, even)
and charge it to my (their) MC/VISA. She just laughed. - JayC.

| I probably would too. For GDM, it'll be as good as printing money. :-).
Hell, I already have my credit card and address on the PC's of my two main
blank DAT tape distributors, I just call 'em up and a few days later the
blanks are at my door. so easy its scary...especially when I order some
blanks then forget I ordered 'em, then find this package at my door....

| There used to be a Dick's Picks VI string, but it got wiped out in a crash
or flood or something... So I'll tack this on here.
I finally got around to my 3rd listen to Dick's Picks 6 (Hartford '82),
before filing it away for a while...
I guess my revised 2 cents on the show is, what justifies this being a
Pick to me is the Spinach > Other One > Stella > Sugar Magnolia sequence
on CD 3. IMO the boyz only wake up & get in synch after Drums. Maybe
they needed a nap first. (kidding!)
The Scarlet > Fire > Estimated > Eyes on CD 2 is great on paper, but...
It's like someone commented in here -- *how* the band is playing is more
important than *what* they're playing. They shoulda circled back and
played Scarlet..Eyes again after they woke up. 8)
Just my opinion du jour. - JayC.
