Last nite it was just Hoot and I driving to Denver, (and man, is he a
bad influence!!)Patty and DivideDave and PeteMoss are goin with us tonite...
We cruise up and find a parking space and start looking for
GlennIngalls and Danyell, who live in Denver now. Can't find 'em so we
start looking for a bar with a phone...none in that part of Denver!
Very Seedy part of town...you won't find me down there without a show
to go to and about 1000 deadheads hangin around. So we head into some
hotel and ask if they have a bar..."nope, but we'll take you to one!"
They thought Hoot and I were stayin at the hotel! So we jump in the
back of the curtisy van and say "To the bar, james!" The guy driving
ask Hoot and I if we are in the band...by this time we both have *BIG*
shiteatingrins on our face and this, along with the royal treament, is
just way too funny. So he takes us to one of the only "heterosexual bars
in the area that's not a porn place.." again way too funny esp. when we
see the dump he drops us off at, which doesn't allow incomeing calls!!
couple of beers and back to the Ogden to get in line...run into friends
and I tell them we are looking for Glenn..they walk up just then. We all
go in and get beers then up to the balcony (but first I had to fall down
once) there was an opening act but I have no idea who they were.
I really like the show, esp. Blackbird, Maggies Farm, Schoolgirl, Shade
of Grey, Travels the Fastest, CASSIDY!! and Josephine...even Sleezy
Hampsters was good!! I thought it was a little short, but I had no
conception of space or time (well, OK maybe space) and they did play
about 20 songs. One of my favorite bob songs they did kinda funky, way
to fast for Heaven Help the Fool. Mat Kelly can play that harp! Vince
sounded good and was very previlant in the mix. and to youse guys in
the Bob sucks note %^)....he was grate last nite! He didn't play too
many leads, but when he did, he was right on. Bob is taking some
dressing pointers from Jerry...he wore black sweats cut off between the
ankle and knee with birkenstocks. Wasserman's solo was real
short compared to when it was just bobnrob, but excellent!
The Ogden is a cool, old theater with excellent acoustics, from the
balcony anyway..but they need to pick the whole thing up and move it
somewhere else.
We hung out around the Ogden afterwards and did stupid
stuff, fell down a few more times, the drive back was scary...I woke up
this morning at 6am to go to work...still drunk...a hot shower and a
cup of hot chocolate helped alot.
In about an hour it all starts over again!

THANK YOU BOBBY!!! and RATDOG!!
Ratdog was killer last nite! Where as wednesday was more of a bobnrob
thang, last nite was more a DEAD THANG!! first there's some
corrections to the setlists, which I wanna thank Mr. Ceparski BIGTIME for
puttin in. Also, we realized that in any other year, we would be
staked out at some Motel getting ready for the first nite of the dead
at McNichols .. we were last year, and the year before...at first that
realization put a damper on the fun, but we were SO, SO grateful we had
some kind of show to go to that helps bring back that special
feeling..and we were all together like we always have been in the past.
On Wednesday, Rob did not do Satisfaction in his short bass solo..he
did that last nite in a *LONG* solo...the whole song!!! Simply freakin
amazing!!! The audience participation singing along was way cool...put
a big smile on my face! The man can slap those bass strings around with
vigor then immediately go into a sweet mellow sound and back to slappin!
Then Thursday, Vince did not do It's a Mans World during the
encores...he did a way cool Roy Orbison tune from the late 50's early
60's that I did not recognize till the end when Vince did the best
Orbison impression that I've ever heard...we all looked at each other
and yelled ROY ORBISON!!!!
Now for the continuing story....Patty, me, Hoot, Dividedave, and Petemoss
met Tom and Rosanne in Monument and tooled up to the Ogden. The word
had gotten out and there was a much larger enforcement presence than
the previous nite, actually the previous nite had *NO* enforcement
presence at all, as witnessed by Hoot and I hanging around the Ogden
until Hoot noticed we were about the last ones there...and didn't want
to be there alone that late. Anyway the wait in line was nice, nice
people all around us , interesting conversations, etc. Got into the
theater, beers, and found some Shakedown Street heads that let us have
5 seats, which we knew what to do with...fold 'em up and lean 'em against
the wall so we could dance, in fact every time someone stood up, their
chair somehow magically dissapeared and our dance space magically
increased.
The show was freakin grate up until Twilight Time...Ramada Inn Lounge
Band time...but picked right back up afterwards. Masterpiece was freakin
grate! Audiance singalong time again! same with Minglewood!! I thought
of Mike Duggan during the "born in the desert..." It Shoulda Been Me
sucked....back to the Ramada Inn Lounge boys!!! Be we were laughing so
hard that it was OK. I love Easy To Slip!!!
AS I said Wassermans solo was in-freakin-credible! and the singalong
was cool. Victim and Throwing Stones really made the show for me!! And
again, everyone in the place was singing along. I would really like to
get the words to Every Little Light,,this IS NOT the Every Little lite
Brent sang, but a tune Mat Kelly wrote for Jerry. COuld not understand
the lyrics very well as he sang it thru his harp mike (Bobby wasn't
even on the stage). There wasn't a peep out of a single soul in the
audience during that song....Then Vince did that Roy Orbison song and
at the end he did that falsetto thang with his voice and oh man the
place went nuts! Knockin was very well done and heratfelt....again the
crowd sang along, but quietly and with respect...at the end, Bobby
motioned to the crowd to keep singing as the band left the
stage..."Knock, knock, knockin on heavens door.." for about 5 or 6
times. We thought they were coming back for one more as the satge
lights weren't turned off, but no such luck. The crowd wents nuts for
about 15 mins...
We had veggies and dip in the car with more beers so there was no
hangin around afterwords last nite, besides I was fried...and the
scene had definitely had the kabosh put on it by the loacl
constabulary, but there was a small group of drummers on the way to our
car, and Patty said..."That's a nice ending touch..." and it was...
MUCH safer drive home....%^) I think Patty had something to do with
that....%^) %^) %^)
we should be on our way to ALb and Vegas but not this year...
Thansk again RATDOG!!!!
