498.0. "good deadhead deed for the day (tm)... a list, not a poll!" by AITRNG::DWEST (his job is to shed light...) Mon Nov 13 1995 10:23

not a poll, but a list...

have you done something nice for someone today??????

not that i want people to be blowing their own horn, but if you tell us
what you did nice for someone, maybe it'll give someone else a good
idea for being nice to someone else... and with a little luck, it'll
just keep snowballing and soon enough people will be nice to each other
all over the place out of habit!

what was YOUR good deadhead deed-for-the-day (tm)???????

saturday-we did sound and performed in a benefit for a little kid
whose mom died in a motorcycle crash... lots of bikers
from several different clubs came and showed the family and
each other a lot of respect and capacity for caring...
the family was very touched... quote of the day "say what
you want about bikers, but these people take care of thier
    		own..."

sunday-when i went to visit my daughter, i brought her Mom and step
Dad some muffins from Dunkins... just because...

    	today- ??????????

I let someone pull out of a street in front of me..I didn't have to,
    but...and they didn't wave a thanx back...oh well...

later, Karen is going to do a good deed and warn our neighbors below us
that there is gonna be some music coming from our place tonight, it
won't be loud, but I'll be practicng with the guit man from my band...
I consider this a good deed, cuz these folks called us last night at
8:45 and asked "how long is that noise gonna go on?" the noise was our
vacuum cleaner...sheeeesh, complain about loud music, but a f'n vacuum
cleaner is too loud? the guy says "it sounds like you're sanding your
    floors up there" unreal

I wish my neighbors would do that. Never have they complained
(I think I'm pretty quiet) and last week they called the police!
(I was playing a record at moderate volume at 10:15 p.m.).

My good deed was to leave them a note telling them my phone #
and inviting them to call me or knock on the door if I'm bothering
    them.

this morning i pre-sorted the recyclables.

we have curb-side p/u every other week (aside: my neighbors on
either side never have anything to recycle ?? ;-)

we toss: glass, newsprint, aluminum, some plastic in a green tote
for 2 weeks, and the day it's collected i sort it and put all the
like stuff together so the dude picking it up can toss it in the
	truck easier/faster.

	it's a small thing.

not today, but yesterday I brought a frozen turkey and some
other stuff to the local food pantry - which will be putting
together the fixings for Thanksgiving dinners to distribute
to needy families in the area for free.

didn't do anything nice for anyone today... in fact, it seems i even
made a couple of people think and i shudder at the prospects of cosmic
backlash that i may have brought down upon myself! :^)

however, i did do something nice friday... i went to the registry and
the insurance company for a friend who had to work and couldn't go
herself... i wonder if standing in line at those two places bought me
enough cosmic brownie points to make up for making people think today?
    :^)

Picked up somebody hitching home from work yesterday (he had
signs and everything, a professional), and took him twice as
far as he asked. In the right direction, even...

    I've always wondered...

If you went out to the end of the active runway at a small general
avaiation airport (say nashuer..) and tried to hitch, would you get a
    ride?

I think I'd give someone a ride if I saw 'em hitching...that would just
be too cool to pass up.

i suspect you'd get a ride, but not in an airplane... more likely in
one of those special limos with the flashing lights... :^)

Someone approached me looking for a jump start. No big deal...well, I
    thought it wasn't gonna be.

Got to his car and the hood wouldn't raise. I spent 30 minutes thawing
out the hood mechanism with my lighter until it opened. It was beyond
cold last night. Anyhow, the car finally got started and the guy was real
    pleased.

well... the felix replies reminded me...

during the last big storm, my bro ti me and me decided to help this old
guy and his wife get unstuck... he just brought his wife home from the
hospital... he had a heart condition himself... decided to try and
make it in the driveway without shoveling... hey, dont let a 3 foot
    snow drift stop you!

anyway, this guy was about 1/4 of a car length into the
driveway...wheels off the pavement... took us almost an hour to dig
him out and had another guy help us push them back into the street...
he wouldn't let us help him get his wife inside... he wouldn't let us
shovel out a space large enough to get his car in off the street...

so we got back at him by not letting him pay us for digging him out...
:^) i told him if he really wanted to pay me back he could help someone
else's Mom and Dad when they were stuck somewhere... his wife, for
some reason, got real irritated... i guess she didn't get it...
for a minute, i thought the old guy was going to cry... but then he
just shook my hand, thanked me again, and said "i'll see what i can
    do..."

and i do believe he will...
