Does anyone smell a scam? I just want to be sure... I did call,
but I'm also told by a friend that he called 1-800-555-1212 and
they have no 1-800 number for VISA customer service.
I've already bitten, and I'm not saying it's bogus, but you
might just want to wait until I hear some form of verification
either from one of you or someone else.
The person on the other end of the phone did know immediately
how much I had charged in the indicated period, or so it seems,
so this gave me confidence. but still.
I'll post if I hear something one way or the other.

after she was done "processing" me, she said
"oh, was your card reported stolen recently" yep
how else would she have known that?

| I've heard about that deal through other channels, and its real enough.
Question: Is it just Visa, or does it include Mastercard?
I thought Visa and Mastercard have merged, no?

da ve,
I did give my visa #, incl. expir date. They took both my cards.
Press "1" to hear the catches. Basically, I think they are
discount coupons not freebies which means you still have to buy something
(i.e. the balance of the purchase price), and you have to
use your Visa card to do it. Another catch is that point-of-sale
transactions and balance transfers don't count. As I recall.

| re: scam or not
not. We got a flier in a recent VISA monthly statement. The deal is that you
get discount coupons good at <these participating stores>. Hey, it's better
than nothin'...

I understand what a balance transfer is... but isn't every Visa transaction
where you purchase something a "point-of-sale transaction" -- i.e. if the
transaction is done when you buy something, then it's a point of sale
transaction, no?

| I, too, got notice of this in my Visa statement. After reading that, I
really wasn't very excited, but then, I guess I'm not the excitable sort. It
really wasn't clear what good these bonus point certificates were. The example
they gave was for $5 off when you purchase two meals at certain restaurants.
This led me to suspect that they were wrapped in enough restrictions that one
would have to go out of one's way, and spend more money than one otherwise might
to derive any benifit from the certificates.
Does anyone have any details on redeeming these things? It turns out I
made a major purchase with my Visa during that period, so have a fair number of
these points accumulated, but haven't figured out if its worth asking for the
certificates.

When I said point of sale, I guess I meant using your visa card
as a debit card. As I do with my dcu card.
I am the excitable sort. 8-0

I just did this VISA deal for the last offer. I had a couple hundred
points.
There will be another offer that is accumulating points righ now (Oct 1 -
Dec 30) and you will need to call the following number, after DEC 30th, if
you wish to participate:
1-800-750-8472

This thing's bugus in the extreme. About the best thing in it
is the Bertucci's deal where you order a large specialty or two-
topping 'za and get the second one free. Other restaurants (there
aren't many but 99 is one of them) you can get a free appetizer
or desert, that type of thing, if you order one or two meals.
Marriott, $20 off a two night weekend stay, no other discounts
in force, etc., that kind of thing.
I'll prolly use a few Bertucci's things but all things considered
it's a waste.
Somewhat less excitable today!
