S.O.S is _next_ weekend (Sept. 9), according to the most recent slipknot
schedule in the slipknot note (which needs housecleaning IMO :-), CORRECT ?

Or was that a typo and they are playing the Marlboro F + G on this Sat, 9/3 ?

I'm sad to say I will miss S.O.S. this year - but only a little sad.
I'm headed for Europe on Monday evening for two weeks of work-related
travel.

"Work-related" means I'll be working some of the time.

This is my first trip out of the country, and I'm psyched - especially
because I'm going to be spending most of my time in Ireland, where my
favorite Redhead will be joining me at the European DECUS in Dublin
(scant blocks from the Guinness brewery ;-) We may also get a chance
to look up some distant cousins of mine in Ballina, County Mayo (on the
other side of the country).

So...I'll be raising a pint of warm Guinness on 9/9 for y'all. Have a
GRATE time!!!

That's cause we all stayed home because we knew you were coming!

Well, not really. We'd planned on going but the people we were planning on
going with decided against it (John had just taken off for the coast that
morning and Barb thought the weather was going to be bad...) and my wife
was less interested after that, and thought the weather was going to be
bad...

I couldn't go by myself, since Amy would NOT babysit the kids again while
I was out, and I could have dragged the kids along, but then it would have
been a bit hard to hang out and chat with anyone ("Dan, Dan come back here!!
Excuse me, I'll be right back..., Hannah, where are you...) so in the
end, I just decided to can it. But Amy is cool to the idea of going to
Colorado sometime, so maybe in the future....

Nah, now you've got me confused with someone else, maybe that other Pete Thompson
here in ZK. Hmm, lyric pile? I might know of where to point to, but
I don't have any lyric base myself. Now, Jay seems to be able to come

S.O.S. is advertised as happening "rain or shine". Well, looks pretty
certain that it'll be rainy on Sat. with the remnants of Hurricane Fran
coming up the coast. what I want to know is, are we expected to sit out
on the field in the rain, or does the stage get moved indoors? Under
that outdoor pavilion at the F & G Club, or indoors completely to the building
that has the bathrooms in it?

Grate time, indeed.

First, seeing everyone again is always wonderful - and what a turnout for such
a crummy weather picture! I normally hate being stuck out in the rain - but
all things considered (and with the help of a last minute grab for the
seldom-used dome tent) I had a grate time.

But the most entertaining thing was to see my son, Joe, take my place with my
dancing fanatic friends (Dee, Wilma, Dawn and the West Roxbury crew), up front
against the stage...;-) What a riot!

My kids want to know when the next all-ages Slipknot gig is coming up...

Rain? what rain? :-)
I actually showed up at SOS at around 2:30. Felt the rain startin' to come
down, and went back home to pick up the tarp, ski poles, stakes, and parachute
cord. Got back at 4:15 and set Geoff and Gerry loose on the gear, and they
did a grate job erecting the DEChead Shelter_From_The_Storm.

Slipknot was in fine form, despite the usual sound-system troubles that were
eventually cleared up. I especially liked the Playin' that ended the first
set, in the rain. Sound was good back at the Shelter_From_The_Storm!
And, the Marlboro F & G had plenty of Sam Adams. Even the hot dogs were good.
Was a lot of fun watching the huge balloon-thing arced over the stage fight
a loosing battle with the rain. When it would come down over the stage,
it would completely block the view, since it was about 2 or 3 feet in
diameter. So people would punch the rainwater off it, and it would float
back up for a while longer before sagging down again.

 - Josh

that was a grate shelter!! :-)
it was fun watching it go up, too.

we had a grate time. didn't see everyone, but got to see a few.
	music was excellent, as usual.

the balloons came down for the last time during the second set.
they got broken up and bounced around. and occasionally a balloon
or two would break free and flaot away. it was fun to watch.

Back in the Department of Kids (DoK), we inherited quite a few of them. Curtis
worked on filling the tent with balloons, and when the other three discovered
them, they formed an impromptu, helium-enhanced re-enactment of the "Lollipop
Guild" duet from the Wizard of Oz. Cracked us all up...

Tammany looks inviting...we'll see...
