465.0. "PHISH 7/1/95 Tape Tree" by NECSC::LEVY (Half-Step Mississippi Uptown Toodleoo) Sun Jul 02 1995 18:17

This is the PHISH 7/1/95 Tape Tree note.

I was able to tape the broadcast of the show in its entirety at a
friend's house. I used 110 minute tapes and have no cuts...just lots
of empty tape for philler. The gain on my tapes is not as high as I
would like, but I was using a strange deck and didn't want to overload
the tape. Overall, it sounds very good considering it was WBCN and
    their &#@%*&% compression.

I miss the first couple of drum beats on Bouncin' and end abruptly
after the last note of Strange Design, as I hurried to flip the tape
(not knowning that they'd give me plenty of time - naturally!).

Side A of Tape I has about 10 seconds of empty tape after Split Open
and Melt, so a 110 is REALLY required. Side A of Tape II is pretty
full, but it might fit on a 100.

Here's how the tapes set up:

    			Tape I - Set I

Ya Mar Bouncin' Around the Room
    	Llama Chalk Dust Torture
    	If I Could
    	All Things Reconsidered
    	It's Ice
    	Prince Caspian
    	Split Open and Melt

    			Tape II - Set II

    	Wilson> Acoustic Army
    	Maze Harry Hood
Theme From the Bottom Suzie Greenburg
    	Uncle Penn E: Funky Bitch
    	Stash>
    	Strange Design

I imaging that there might be interest in a tree? :-)

I dunno if anyone else got a complete catch of the show. If so, and if
there is enough interest, we could certainly do a double or triple
    trunk.

If you want to participate in the tree, please reply with the

I got the second set on video tape. I'd be glad to source
at least that much, if it helps.

I have it on 90's. Not knowing much about them it was hard to know when
to flip the tape so I probably have 2 ugly cuts :)

I have it on 100's. Just let it run and break.
I thought 'BCN/Phish did a grate job. 'BCN used no braodcast
truck and broadcast direct out of the 'board. And, unlike some
other shows I've heard, they didn't do any station IDs during the
	show.
465.4Anybody have a NON-BCN copy?SALEM::MARTIN_SPerpetual Smile...Wed Jul 05 1995 10:598

But it doesn't sound like a board tape.
It's very "audiency." (i made that word up so it's automatically
      spelled correctly). :-)

      But it's still good.

keerect. it's not a board tape. but, i like the audience mix in
the tape. i thought the mix was just right, for an fm broadcast.

I'm sure there's a non-BCN tape of the show floating around somewhere
in the ether. I saw an awful lot of microphones peeking over the
    masses.

At lowell, i reckon they said "Theme" from the bottom

I have several shows dubbed at great woods by various bands
(phish, dmb, etc) and i've never been really psyched about the
audience tapes we get from there

While the show sounds great when you're there, i think the roof
over the seats messes with the sound somehow ... WBCN said that
they had a SBD patch for the great woods show, but i think they
were talking out of their a$$ ... sounds more like an AUD master
to me

i had my sister record the 7-1-95 show off of the radio, and she
mentioned that one of the DJ's was interviewing Trey Anastasio
before the show ... it was about an hour before the show, and
the DJ mentioned that it seemed like a good time to eat some
magic vegetables ... Trey laughed and agreed that it sounded
like a good idea ... ;~}

The acoustics at GW are pretty terrible unless you are in the front,
center section so I imagine audience tapes sound about as good as my
attempt to record the Star Wars soundtrack from the audience many years
ago (two hours of rustling candy wrappers and feet, with the occasional
    muffled explosion).

The design of GW is more concerned with performiing a cashectomy on the
audience, not with providing good sound.
