I'll be there if school don't interfere with my plans. I booked
the weekend at the StarDust. I've stayed there in the past and
I like it.. it's on the same end of the strip as the brewery.
I hope to get another lightning show during drums and space.
That always seems to happen at the Vegas showz I've been to.
..and those mountains behind the stage.. It's too cool..
Any guesses/rumors on the opening act for Summer tour? Wish it
was Traffic again!
Where's this mexican place that's been mentioned in here before?

The Mexican Food Place is in the settlement of Green Valley, Kath. As you
leave the strip and head towards the Silver Bowl you go thru Green
Valley. There's a fine Jewish deli in the same area that's grate for
breakfast (we usually take someting from there to the shows to eat
afterwards) and Enzo's Pizza has been good in past years (but not as
good 2 years ago). That's why we usually stop in Green Valley before
heading back to the strip, cause there's good food places everywhere
and as we all know the casino food SUCKS!
Our crowd so far is Me and Patty, Hoot Gibson and Divide Dave, Glenn
Ingalls most likely and last nite I invited Mike Bourdess's friend
Petemoss (Dan) to go with us. May be a few more straglers sign up but
alot of my friends prefer to drive...don't ask me why....
I only remember one show where the lighting danced above the Bowl (it's
mentenioned in Skeleton Key under "dead controlling the weather" or
something.) I DO remember a torential downpour one show (opened with
Cold rain and snow! )and a thunderstorm off in the distance after the
first day first year as well as a FULL!! moon that came up over the
parking lot after the last day first year...40,000 heads all howling at
the moon in the Nevada desert!!!
we'll havta make plans to hook up as the time approaches...I wore
dechead t's one year every day hoping someone would yell at me that I
knew...met several Calif. ex-decheads (TFSO) but no eastcoast-heads.

It is just like the HRCafe decor, but it is a hoot to gamble while

as we made one last pass thru the casino on our way out we finally
found them.

You see, I have gout. If I drink too much beer, (which usually means

| Trip report..
Just got back home after spending two weeks in Seattle, WA. What a
place! Weather was perfect (believe it or not no rain!). People are
incredibly nice - even downtown they say hello! Water, water
everywhere and oh yeah, da boyz came to town.
Originally I had no plans on going, my friend that I visited wouldn't
be interested and I don't like going to shows alone, so initially I
planned to blow them off!
However, while on a tourist boat tooling around Puget Sound the guy
sitting next to me had a Steal Your Face watch on and I struck up a
conversation with him. He convinced me to attend the Thursday show and
I'm really glad that I did!
Don't have the set list in front of me, however, the Stranger and He's
Gone was just smoking. The only weak moment was Samba In The Rain (which
admittedly I never liked). Even drumz/space was good. The stadium only
seats 25K and the show wasn't sold out. Early start (5:45PM). The other
thing I noticed was that the 2nd set instead of flowing from song to song
seemed to be more like a first set of song stop song. Jerry was in
great voice and playing with great intensity.
Friday was sold out, but I did manage to get a ticket. Any show that
opens with Help/Slip/Franklin and starts a 2nd set with Scarlet/Fire
into Playin'/Uncle John's is pretty good in my book. Alot less long
jams but the quality of music was much superior to many shows I've been
to in the last year or so.
Now I see what the differences are between East and West Coast shows.
The crowds here are so much more frenzied. West Coasters just take it
in stride and it's not like the Dead play Seattle all the often. The
people I met up with said last year's shows were the first in over 20
years and that the response from the city and band was so positive
that da boyz decided to come back. Every day the shows made the paper
and the opening show had highlights on the 11PM news!
If any of you get a chance this is a must visit city. Great views,
food, locations and loads of things to do. Can't wait to go back.

| I like that last note's number......
anyone else hear about the riot in Vegas in the parking lot??
hears what/how I heard....Friday, May 26, in my dr office he hears i
just came back from the dead (and looked like it too) and says "Oh I
hear there was a riot?" that was us I say....then I hear from lawlor
there really was a riot! This is second hand so yell at lawlor if the
specifics are wrong, but I guess Friday after the show there was some
local robbing people at knifepoint in the lot, which pissed the cops
off so they were already tense for Sat. Then after the show sat, some
local is standing on the raod throwing beerbottles and rocks at the cop
cars. Cops chase him into the lot, into a drum circle where they beat
him pretty good. "Kill the cops!" becomes the chant. Cops get scared
and pepper gas the drum circle....end of riot.....
and i was thinkin and talkin with lawlor about the 80 arrests....that's
nothin for a weekend, is it?????? Don't the cops do much more damage in
the east on a weekend???

| .68 I agree Seattle is a beautiful I was there for the first time
two years ago, the site of Mt. Ranier was spectacular, and no rain
either, didn't get out much due to work, but visited a Casino
on a Indian Reservation, and (pardon the pun) got scalped.
I will be back to that area sometime, it must be great to see
a show there..

| re: Seattle
Gorgeous! Of course I was out there for a week before I could see the
mountain. Lot's of microbrews and brewpubs...coffee. Pretty city what with
"Lake" Washington and all (I believe that's what it's called...??).
Re: arrests at shows
I remember from Oxford w/ 2 shows and a 100K per day there were less than 60
arrests total. I also remember the Tampa thing from a year or more ago where
there were problems caused and tear gas was used.

| i have it on pretty good authority from both friends who live there and
my own experience, that the amount of "rain" Seattle gets is greatly
exaggerated...
the locals say they like it that way... "it keeps californians and
woosy tourists away"... :^)
one of my favorite cities... one of the few places outside new england
i would consider relocating to...

Oregon and Washington wildeness absolutely blows my mind into tiny little
pieces.
Personally I didn't like the Seattle city scene....seemed like everyone
I met out there wanted me to ride the horse...When I told them I didn't
surf that wave, I was an outcast. Very bizzare.

| I lived in Seattle for 2 years while in grad school (probably should have
stayed). Great city, lots to do with mountains and lakes near by. Seattle
gets less rain than Boston annually. It's just grey and drizzly for most of
the winter where here we get snow and sun (and a few clouds).
