Merry HO-HO's everyone! I hope everybody's x-mas was happy.
So what cool DeaD stuff did everyone get?
I'll start: I got the "batik" dancin' skeleton/shake your bones Tee
The Baby Jaz got: a tie-dye "onesy" and a cool cool cool
"Tumbling Bears" baby blanket (courtesy of
her uncle LeBlanc_C) ...it won the coolest gift
of the year award, edging out the Dr. Suess book,
"One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish."

i skied at stowe on 12/31. i was planning on skiing somewhere in vermont on
1/2, but i just felt too tired on 1/1 and wanted to work on grad school
applications, so i headed home early.
we got there when the lifts opened (bright and early at 7:30 am - we chose
stowe over sugarbush because they opened earlier). conditions were adequate
at that point - they had made snow and groomed overnight, and there weren't
any crowds at that hour. unfortunately, the most challenging trails weren't
open because there wasn't enough snow. as the day went on, it got more and
more crowded, and the conditions gradually deteriorated. by 1:30 pm it was
pretty crowded and the slopes were pretty icy and since we had had already
quite a number of hours of skiing we quit early.
certainly not the most spectacular skiing, but it was nice to get out on the
slopes again. hopefully january will see a bit more snow than december. they
were supposed to get some on the night of 1/1.

to rte 9..per one NH state trooper.....snowed all day...musta been
between 10 and 15 below at the summit with windchill...Beartrap and
the north face of the mtn were skiied off heavily at the end of the
day due to the whipping wind and a base of sheeeeeeer ice...

| the weather was very pleasant at stowe. apparently it had been quite windy
earlier in the week, but it was calm on saturday. when we started skiing it
was warmer at the summit (in the 20s) than at the base (in the teens), because
the summit was in the sunlight but the base wasn't. got to catch the sunrise
(thanks to the skywatching tips pointed out in this notes file) while driving
there.

Season's Greetings to y'all - my virtual Dead family!
I've come to believe that this season of short days - season
of most darkness - season of holidays, many of which are symbolized
in some way by Light - that the place to find that Light, at this
time of year, is inside yourself. It seems the natural thing to
do when it's so cold outside, and so cozy inside, sometimes, to be
introspective and quiet...to look for the light and let it Shine!
so, light up! ;-) and let's hope next year brings not-quite-so-much
sadness...
Happy New Year!
love, Debess

This brought a smile to my face...my brother-in-law is from Massena
and is always giving me grief because I went there on a "foreign
exchange" trip in high school.
I have fond memories of touring the Alcoa plant next to the Robert

two oldest kids and I will be together for the first time in 10 years
or more. Life being the long strange trip it is - we've been on very
separate paths for a long time. While we spent time together in
various configurations, we three haven't been in the same room together
in that long. My other kid, the San Diego daughter won't be home this
year. Anyway - warm thoughts and hugs to you all and I also hope you
all get what you wish for cuz if you try some time you get what you
need.
