Looks like PC development from home could be the wave of the future!
turns out my system at home is better than they have available for me at Coors,
so I'll be spending most of my time working from home too, at least

It sounds like a pretty good move. I hope it all works out as well as
it sounds. Where you get to stay in the same house, then I'm sure I'll see

Sheesh, you'd think they'd cut a short timer some slack. I gotta fly to DC

Btb, this morning I got offered a 25% raise to stay. Sometimes it just
simply amazes me how stupid management can be. "duhh lets not give the guy
a raise for three years, then after he gives his notice and comits to a job
at another company, see what we can do to keep ourselves from having to do
his job after he leaves".

be sorely missed in this notes file. Regardless of where you end up it
sounds like you'll be staying put as far as your home is concerned so
there is good chance we may see you at Slipknot and local (BG, Centrum,

you to a DEChead lunch.
Good luck.

Keep dreamin' Jack - the dead will have to put an all disco 1976 reminisce
LP out and drive away the hordes before they'll fit into a little place like
that. :)

huh? does the providence civic center really hold that much less people than
the boston garden? i remember it being on the same order of magnitude, but
i've only been there once, and that was 3 years ago.

430.28 | All too strange... | QUARRY::petert | rigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty | Thu Nov 03 1994 12:40 | 25 |
| Providence Civic Center is probably similar to the Centrum in seating
capacity. Somewhere around 15,000 or so. The Boston Garden seats
somewhere around 18,500 for basketball, so figure closer to 20K for
a concert.
Fog, good to hear they want you to stay and are willing to chip in
more money, BUT that sounds like something they should have done
a while back. The proper window for that is after you have the other
offer, but before you've officially accepted. From what you say,
it sounds like you did present them the opportunity to do that.
Unless the 25% raise (!!!) is significantly more than what you'd make
at the new job, I'd say screw em! There are other factors in mind
I'm sure, but no doubt you'll decide what's best for you. Change
can be good.
Don't know if I ever mentioned this, but at SIS, when Dan and Charlie
were playing a bit together, you donated one of Charlies matchbox
cars to Dan (as you supposedly had lots of them). Just wanted to let
you know that Dan REALLY likes that car. It's now one of a set of
cars that he takes to bed with him at night ;-) Boy, it can be
a bit strange waking up in bed at night to find this little boy
climbing into bed with you, WITH his handful of cars! Thanks!
Later,

430.30 | Providence History lesson | POWDML::CUTLER | | Fri Nov 04 1994 17:41 | 42 |
| Re:Providence Civic Center. I agree with PeterT, its about the same
size as the Centrum. Last time the Dead played there (87???) there were
the usual fans without tickets who kind of hung out in front and
generally around this venue. From the point of view of the Providence
Police Dept this was not a cool thing to do and there was a lot of
arrests, fights etc. Consequently, it will be a long time I think
before the boyz play there again.
However, if we get a new mayor, the current one is a convicted criminal
things may change as the local merchants realize the $$$$ involved adn
would like to get in on this kind of cash flow.
As for a funky and smaller venue, consider the old Leroy Theater in
Pawtucket (I saw JGB there back in 76/77 time frame) This place "seats"
about 4000. Seats is a loose term here as many of them are broken and
you need to check where the springs are located before plopping
yourself down in one as this could be a painful experience.
Even older perhaps is the old Rhode Island Auditorium. I saw my first
concert ever (the Beach Boys) there in 1965. This place is like the
garden without the upper balcony. It was an ice hockey rink and home of
the Rhode Island Reds (now the Providence Bruins). Instead of glass
around the rink, they had chicken wire. Further they let fans (of
drinking age) drink beer (paper cups only) in the stands. I rember
watching a player from the opposing team being checked into the boards
and then having a fan throw beer in the guys face through the chicken
wire. There were some truly amazing brawls during these hockey games as
well.
This venue was also famous for the fact that there were seats which
could be "rained-out" because the roof leaked so badly. Gives a whole
new meaning to customer service desk request.
The boyz played here in 1971 although I did not attend this show (I saw
them the next night in Cortland, New York (with about 2500 other
deadheads) For reference, I still have the ticket stub for this show -
cost $3.00 general admission.) Lest I digress to far, this venue is now
a condo/tennis complex.

430.31 | and still more Providence | RICKS::CALCAGNI | I thought I made a mistake but I was wrong | Sun Nov 06 1994 15:47 | 11 |
| Ah yes, I remember the R.I. Auditorium very well. Jack is right about
the chicken wire; you could actually grab and hold onto opposing team
players' jerseys. They didn't like that too much. As I recall, Hendrix
played the Auditorium.
In the Providence Civic Center, the balcony isn't stacked over the
lower arena like at the Garden; the upper seats continue to fan back.
I think this adds to making it seem smaller for some reason. The new
Boston Garden is supposed to be more along this line as well.
