You can get it on the web...or I can send it to you. You need VBRUN200.DLL
to make it work.

| America On-Line has a pretty decent library of stuff. I found some
cool WAV files and a SYF bmp file (used for pc's background). AOL also
has a lot of things for the MAC.

First off, the only readily available screen saver with any sorto dancin'
bear is for PC's and clones, working in the Windows environment. To get it
runnin' ya need two files, dbear.zip and vbrun200.zip. Once you get them,
you need to unzip both , then put the dbear files and vbrun200.dll into
your Windows directory. If you then open Windows and click on the desktop
icon in the Control Panel folder in the Main Folder of Windows, Dancin'
Bear should be one of the screen saver options. [If you have Norton desktop
check for its appearance in the Sleeper icon that houses all the screen
savers.]
Now, to get the files, ya gotta grab 'em off a ftp site. Remember that they
are both binary, so set your file type to binary before transferring them
[under Mosaic, select "Load to Local Disk" from the Options menu]. The
location of the files are as follows:

Among other places, no doubt. Good luck, and enjoy. There may soon be a
screensaver with dancin' bears for the Mac, not quite as original as this
one, but...one exists that runs on After Dark 2.0+ in the form of the
dbears on an orbiting globe, with the potential for multi-color satori
runnin' in the background usin' AD's multimodule function, but it's not

I pulled down the screen saver from the gatekeeper (decwrl) and it
looks grate! The dancin' bear grooves!
For those intersted, you can also ftp a windows-based zip/unzip package
and it works very well.
ftp gatekeeper.dec.com /.f/micro/msdos/win3/util winzip55.exe
winzip55.exe is actually a bunch of files and executables with it's
own installation and de-install programs. After you've loaded this
software under windows, then unzipping the dbears and vbrun files
are a piece of cake!

RE: Dancin' Bears
I ftp'd dbear.zip, vbrun200.zip over yesterday but couldn't get
them to unzip....
Now, thanks to Kip's note, I've pulled over winzip55.exe, but
all I get when I run that is an error (HeaderC Error).
So, what say ye? Are there any knights in shining armor that want
to help me figure out what I'm doing wrong???
What zip utility does gatekeeper use? It's definitely not any version
of pkzip/pkunzip that I have.....something else? How does this
winzip55.exe work?

| If winzip won't self-extract, it has probably been scrozzled in
transit.
What options are you using in ftp? You probably want to say 'type
image' before getting the file.

Kath,
The file probably got messed up on the network. It copied over to me
just fine.
The winzip55.exe file is actually a "zipped" file as well containing
software to create a windows folder with the zip/unzip application,
standard windows-formatted help, etc.
When you copy over the three files, dump dbears.zip and vbrun200.zip
into your windows directory. Execute winzip55.exe and it will take
you through instllation procedures. Once that's installed you can use
it to unzip the dbear and vbrun200 files. Then, follow instructions
from previous note (control panel, etc.).
Hope this helps. Send mail if it doesn't. I've dump the software on
my server here, so there's another place you can copy from.

Awesomely cool people that you are, the FTP> TYPE IMAGE fixed it
all up nice and neat.
Although, I have to say, don't try and install winzip55.exe under
Windows NT. Ick....my PC was not a happy camper after that.
Das bear is way cool, he's toolin' across my screen right now.

If this is an alpha box running Windows NT, yeah, strange things might
happen. Not that I know any specifics, but from the reports I've
heard, it takes a lot of emulation to get good preformance for things
built specifically for the x86 boxes, and not all of them work that
great.

| Not quite a screen saver, but...
I downloaded a program called Cthugha over the weekend. It describes
itself as "an oscilloscope on acid"...
It listens to line in or your CDROM via a sound card and generates
various interesting images synchronised to the music. Not surprisingly,
it works very well with Pink Floyd (and Enya, and Carmina Burana, and
it comes with list of other recommended tunes).
It runs on MSDOS, is emminently tweakable via paramters, image files
etc.

The "60's USA" scheme in Win95 is pretty nice.
It's got a tie-dyed screen background, twirling flowers, groovy sound effects,
and a way trippy-cool screen saver, man! ;-)
I'm sure someone is gonna put up a Dancing Bears one soon with all the
required Dumb_Bobby_Lines(tm), stealies, etc. Now, i can find a way to hack
the icon animation files...
