420.0. "Am I suppose to be happy?" by MROA::HENDRICKX () Fri Sep 02 1994 16:39

Can someone help? Am I suppose to be happy?

Instead of going to a ticket agency I sent off for 2 tickets to the
Oct. Boston Garden show. I postmarked the first Monday and did all
the other right things(I thought) to get the request to G.D.T.S.

I just received my two tickets and they are up in the back in Sec.
    85 on Monday night.

I expected better seats. Was I wrong?
    Thanx

Yah that's the way it goes. I think they used to split the venue in half between
mail order and ticketmaster. there are good seats and bad seats in both halves.

85 is better than the 93 I got for THursday. Anything is better than the
stadium 20 I got last year.

Mail order is a lot easier to get up for to get a good position in line.

    yes, you are...

mail order is done lottery style... sometimes you win big (front row
center)... sometimes you just win (tix without service charges,
waiting in line, paying scaplers or agency fees etc)... and sometimes
you just don't make it at all ("sorry, all tix were gone byt he time
we got to your order")... mail order is like life... there are no
    guarantees...

however, if you're still bummin', you can always try to trade them
for something you might like better... not to mention that there's a
big percentage of folks at deadshows that never sit in thier assigned
seats anyway... and there's always the ticketless horde that would
love to buy it off you...

in fact, if you don't want 'em, i'll take 'em... (for face value
    of course :^)...

420.5Ohhh. That's what I did!MROA::HENDRICKXTue Sep 06 1994 23:298
After sitting down and READING the literature, I found out why
GDTS put me off for awhile. I was suppose to send $71.25 for two
tickets and a registered return. I sent $71.50. Because I sent
$.25 too much, they put my request aside and answered the "good"
    requests.
I have to travel for a bit, but when I get back I may take you
up on the "face value" suggestion.

not to flame you here mon, but, i'm one who usually sits in my seat.
yup, sometimes that means a lame seat, other times it is a good seat.
i always _hate_ it when i have a hot seat and the idiots next to me
try to put 5 people in 2 seats. just crowds my space and it ain't
fair. i never hesitate to tell people to split or shutup... guess
i'm just gettin' old...and, i like my space, espec. when the seat
is a hot one.

I agree JC. I got 3rd row in BG. Before the show I will get to
know those around me. If you don't belong there, don't show up
there mid-show. I'll have you tossed. No hesitation. There's
precious little room down there to begin with.

    JC and Jay
i don't see anything wrong with going on a seat search and in the event
you do find one and are able to sit thru the whole show without the
actual owners coming by to claim it......ifthe actual owners do come
by stub in hand you say "No problem, sorry to inconvenience you" and
you go on your merry way...just my $.37....

420.10there's room enough for all of us with a little kindness,....LUDWIG::DWESTriding on Blaine the Mono...Fri Sep 16 1994 10:1427

    Chris,

you're probably right when you say that most of us have done that at
shows... there are so many people at a dead show up and dancing that
there are always empty seats... there have been times when i've sat
in as many as 6 or 8 different seats during the course of a show...
when someone shows up who has a "claim" to that space and you bail
    immediately, no big thing...

the problem is, not everybody is that considerate... i've also had
people push and shove thier way into my seat/row/section and damn near
start fist fights... it's not uncommon to have people take an
attitude of "i don't care what your tickets says... it's a dead show
and i have as much right to sit here as you do"... it's an obnoxious
attitude that really puts people off and ruins the vibe for
    everybody...

i have no issue with people who roam around and land in seatsthey don't
have tickets for... it's only those who don't show any kindness or
consideration for others that cause the problems... it's a big place
and thre's usually room for all of us... but as JC points out, just
cuz a group of friends want to sit together doens't mean i should have
to deal with 5 people in two seats and taking away from my own pleasant
    show experience...

-> just because 5 friends want to sit together
totally agreed on that matter.....if they wanted to sit together
they shoulda bought a block of tickets together.....
anyways i have much more fun at shows doing a solo mission..you meet
tons of new people and forge new friendships that way.......
as said, a little kindness goes a long way

I know I'm sitting in MY seat for the Boston Garden show!!! (Though I may
swing back to the taper section for a song or two via an arrangement
with a photographer friend of Mystery's (whom I haven't heard from
yet Jim, but there's still time)) The times I have "upgraded" my seat
were usually well after people were settled in place.

Mystery's probably in transit, coming back from out west. I'm sure his buddy
Mark will still be happy to swap seats to get a few pictures...

	chris,

	what da ve said!!
i've copped unclaimed seats before. sometimes i've stayed there
the whole show cuz the owners never came. other times i've moved
on when the owners came. my point was that i won't squeeze 25
people into an 18 seat row, especially when it's the third row.

	;-)

	i'm psyched.

Whew! The cobwebs are starting to clear! Ok Sean, here's a brief review of
the show on Friday 9/16 at the Shoreline:

Weather: ~85 and clear (a nice warm evening to boot!)
Police Presence: Getting worse. They were crawling all over the parking
lot, on foot & on horseback.
Crowd: Excellent. Felt like a special homecoming even though the boyz
were just here in July. Witnessed a few miracles....

    Set List:

    First Set

    Cold Rain & Snow
?? Bob Song (sorry, I was, ah, well, somewhere else... :-)
    Lazy River Road
    Black Throated Wind
    Stagger Lee
NEW PHIL SONG! (better than Wave to the Wind but nowhere close to Box
    of Rain)
    Cassidy
    Deal

    Second Set

    Victom or The Crime
    Crazy fingers
    Estimated Profit (go Bob go)
    Space/Drums (brain food!)
    The Wheel
This Could be The Last Time
    Good Lovin'

    Encore:

    Liberty (a bit weak)

    Some general comments & observations:

There were no big surprises, just an excellent show. First set was a
bit low key until Cassidy, which was one of the best versions I've
heard in a long time. Drums during space were particularly
haunting...wow! Bob went nuts on Estimated Profit, very soulful. All
    the boyz were having a great time from The Wheel until the finish;
laughing, alive, moving around (yes, even Jerry!) and to top it off, Bill
was even caught singing to This Could be The Last Time! Big upgrade on the
video screens from the July show; they've got some big, smokin'
workstation doing unbelievable graphics now..very cool. Good
marshmellow war - new twist...corn tortillas. As always, veggie burritos
    were tasty.

They looked rested and ready to start the Fall Tour. Jerry looks great,
dare I say almost svelte? I can't wait for the October return.

That's it from the left coast. Have a great time at the BG shows ya'll.

    Miracles Do Happen!
