381.0. "The Grateful Dead Almanac" by CSCMA::M_PECKAR (that would be something) Tue Nov 02 1993 17:18
From Gary Lambert...
"The Grateful Dead Almanac"
produced by Grateful Dead Merchandising. Gary Lambert editor.
_Brave New Beginnings_
Greetings, and welcome to the first issue of Grateful Dead Almanac,
our latest method of keeping you informed. The Almanac is going to
cover a lot of ground -- this issue, for instance, has information about
the Rex Foundation and a selection from a major, unpublished Robert Hunter
poem (Hunter, we are pleased to tell you, has accepted an invitation to
be a regular contributor, as he was to the fondly remembered Dead Heads
mailings of years past). You'll also find stories on our next two music
releases -- Upper Limbo, a live Ken Nordine Spoken-word and jazz album,
and the first in a series called Disck's Picks. Dick Latvala is our vault
custodian, and he's chosen some favorite performances from vintage two-track
show tapes for a release that will be available by mail-order only -- call
it Son of Vault.
And of course, since this is a Grateful Dead publication, we're open to
a million possibilities that we haven't even thought of yet -- which is where
you come in. We want and need feedback! Tell us what you want -- please
avoid the illegal, immoral and fattening, both from GD in general and the
Almanac in particular, and we'll see if we can take the whole circus to
a slightly higher plane. Drop a note to:

So, there you have it. While in fact this alamanac does devote considerable
space to advertising GDM material, it does contain some other interesting
stuff that makes it worthwhile for something other than mere consumerism. :-)
I give it three stars, Geo-Bob says check it out! You can subscribe by
calling the merchandise number:
1-800-225-3323
Out of USA folks can probably write Gary at the above address to subscribe.
By the way, they show a picture of Dick's Picks, and if the graphics on
the CDs themselves stay as portrayed...well, let me say I think they look
pretty cool!

My HO...
Just a creative marketing ploy from the folks at GDM (Grab Deadheads' Money).
