359.0. "Yet another farewell..." by 11SRUS::MEKLOF () Wed Jun 23 1993 15:32

Well, it seems it's time for yet another Farwell note. This
one was unplanned, though not unwelcome. Up through Friday, the
belief was that our group would TFSO three people. On Monday morning,
we were told that a last minute change of funding would mean that most
of the group would get the package. Out of over forty, there are
seven engineers, and four staff people left (why a group with only
seven engineers needs a staff of four is beyond me, but that's how it
goes).

You know the joke about the field service tech who was several
hours late one morning. When they got to work, they were asked why
they were late. "Flat tire." "It took this long?" "I had to change
three before I found the one that was the problem."

In the wild, animals caught in a trap have been known to gnaw
off the trapped limb to escape.

Digital's caught in the trap of a changing world. They're
indiscriminately gnawing off vital portions of their anatomy, hoping
to free themselves. I DO hope they realise that they need to embrace
the `trap' before they bleed to death - for the sake of the many good
people still here.

I must confess, I'm less than optimistic, though, and am glad
they made it easier for me to move on. If a job falls into my lap
by Friday, I might consider it, but I doubt I'll actively look within
the company.

It's been said before, but this notefile will be one of the
things I miss the most. Take care, and may the gnawing jaws spare
you, if that's what you want.

Best of luck Mark. We do have some openings in our group and I sent your
resume to my boss just in case. I know they've been doing some interviews
but I don't know any of the status's. We're a compiler and tools group
for Alpha OSF, so I don't know if there's a total match, but it look
like you did some language work in the past, and who knows? Don't
want to get your hopes up too high of course, but it can't hurt to try.

Thanks, All, for the good wishes. I do plan to do the Boston
shows, so that's covered. I have an interview tomorrow for something
else that sounds interesting, but I don't know if that could be
processed in time, even if they want to hire me, and I want to work
there. I've declined interviews for a few things that sounded either
    uninteresting, or unsecure.

Peter, I think my resum had already made it over that way, but it
never hurts to have it show up again. We were a compiler and tools
group for VMS, so it would have been a reasonable match.

I'll try to get in here sometime tomorrow, with an update on the
race. If I don't get a chance, you all take care of yourselves.

Hi All!

I'm back for a bit. I'm working in LKG as a contractor, probably for a
few months. I'll be noting here as time allows.

The past fifteen months have been pretty good. I've done some
contracting at various places, and had plenty of "vacation" (I could really get
used to that, if it weren't for the corresponding lack of income).
