I grew up in Poughkeepsie. Whereabouts does Dave live? I haven't been back
there in about 12 years, since my parents moved to Florida when I was in
college. You'd a thunk they'd at least have left a forwarding address. :-)

Hope to make it to Chets tonight if we don't have to travel,..

Jum,.. If I have a littler more time later today,.. I will try once
more to explain my personal name,..
By the way,.. I have never changed my personal name since joining
DEC,.. do you think I hold any kind of record or anything for that?

He lives in the town of Poughkeepsie (as opposed to the city, yes folks
they are different). Right near the Nassau Road School which is behind
Rt 9 between THE MALL (which is fairly new according to Dave) and IBM.

| Tonight- Getting together with an old friend from college who's
visiting from Virginia.
Saturday- Gettin' up mid mornin' getting an oil job, doing some
laundry, and heading out around noon to Misquamicut Beach, RI, with my
significant other.
Saturday night- Drinking myself into oblivion, Crashing at a cheap
hotel.
Sunday- Hitting the beach and re-living the childhood memories of having
vacationed in Misquamicut for 14 yrs straight. It's so much more fun
now going to the beach front bars. You miss alot spending all your
time in the arcade and waterslide. (Secretley looking forward to the
waterslide and bumpercars at the amusment park part of the public
beach)
Sunday night- Party more, A lot of bars have christmas parties around
now. They close for the Winter so its kind of a last bash.
Monday- Pack-up, Check out, hit the public beach for the rest of the
day.
Tuesday morning- Wonder why I didn't move to San Fransisco and wind surf
for a couple years. (I don't know how to wind-surf, but it seems like a
very romantic image.
Hope everyone has a grate one,

walk up to Chet's and see if I can hear any diffenerce in the Bass
guitar.
Tomorrow, I'll probably sleep lat and hopefully have everything
ready to sail.
Got a window from 13:00 to 19:00 to get to Tarp cove. Hang out
there, eat, drink beer, swim, sleep and think, "Another perfect sail, I
wonder what everyone else is doing".
Sunday, up early, chow, drink coffee and reach for Oak Bluffs
before noon. Hang out on the Vinyard and maybe land there for once.
Monday, get through Woods Hole before 13:00, maybe stop in Hadley's
Harbor for lunch. After lunch, sail home, drive home, be home and
sleep.
Tuesday, get up, goto work, realize that I need to have some time
off. Think about what I'd do with it and remember that S word.
I got space on the boat, anyone doing nothing?

| I was planning a bike trip to Canada for the weekend, but the guy
organizing it called me last Monday and said he thinks he has early
symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome and it's better to call off the trip
than risk it getting worse. Said he wasn't able to do even an hour of
biking without he hand getting numb.
But, maybe some alternatives. First, tonight watch my
recently-converted-from-PAL-to-NTSC videos of Cropredy. Tomorrow,
maybe bicycling or hiking. More of the same for Sunday. Monday the
weather sounds iffy, so maybe beer making and bottling. Just picked up
most of the ingredients for 3 all-grain batches (even have the liquid
wheat beer yeast sitting here avoiding the hot car) - a wheat beer, a
Belgian ale (using yeast from my Chimay Rouge), and a Christmas ale.
Still have to pick up the big part: the extra 10 pounds of grain since
the new shop in Nashua doesn't yet have large quantities of grain.

them to sleep, relaxing, catching up on my reading and video watching.
If the night is nice and the moon is down, maybe I'll drag out
the scope and get further behind on my reading and video watching ;-)
If the weather is nice and hot, maybe I'll finally get to the
State park and do some swimming with Hannah, the 3.5 year old.
Anyone know of any good pools (indoor, at least 25 yards) in the
Nashua area? I really need to get back in shape. Monday, if
our friends get home early enough from Lon Guyland, we'll head up
there and do a 3 yr old bday party with them. See if I can convince
them to go to Slip Out of Summer next weekend ;-) All in all, not
too exciting, but hey, 3 days is 3 days. Oh yeah, probably take some
code home and totally ignore it ;-)

Despite that I have had some real depressing things going on
in my life right now, this past weekend was one of the
most fabulous weekends (weatherwise) I have ever experienced.
Friday night I stayed with my friend on Winnipesaukee and

...easily 100 miles.
Yesterday I biked 40 miles from Acton through Harvard

i believe the ocean mist is located in narragansett, ri. anyway you
would take rt. 95 south to route 1 south (towards e. greenwich) and
head down to narragansett, past scarborough beach to the matunick
beach road exit off the left hand lane, which is really a u-turn.
matunick beach road is about 1/4 mile on your right, and the ocean
mist is about 1/2 down on your right.

| well we got our cooler weather for the fourth out here on Colo.
Fryday was that....fryed in the Sun at 10,000 feet. rode the Mountain
bikes, that nite went into Alma to the South Park Bar to
listen to the local geologist and friend play some acoustic music
(nice FOTD garcia/grissam style), met MNELSON and friends there, drank
some Newcastle on tap, played pool...
Saturday slept in, MNELSON and friends went and climbed 3 14'ners.
I'll let him tell that story...%^) That afternoon as Divide Dave and
Julie showed up the cold rain and snow started. It snowed most of the
nite and most of the next morning, no collection at Tumbledown but
Mousquito Pass prob got 3-5 inches.
Sunday we cut some Aspen for firewood as we watched the snow squalls
come and go over the pass. Brats for lunch and time to head home. Got
home just in time to see the Springs fireworks and then to set some of
our own off. Drank till 3am.....good thing Monday was a holiday too.
Vegged almost all of Monday
happy Fourth everybody! hope it was a good one!

| ...I'm vegging today. I spent the weekend pressure cleaning my
house in preparation for staining it. I tried keeping the
house between me and the sun, like a sun dial, to avoid
getting burned. 2500 psi of 50 degree water kept me from
feeling the heat - or the burn. It didn't work. I'd make a
better stop sign, than a sun dial today. ;-)
The house looks good, but I'm fried.

We had a beautiful time camping on our recently purchased land. Set out
Friday night and set up our cabin tent nestled in some trees facing the eastern
horizon. Started dinner and took a walk aroung the property all the while
I simply thanked the Great Spirit for bringing us here and asking the land to
embrace my family and our home. Apologies were offered for the disturbance
that is to occur soon and offered assurance that, although we will need to
cut down several trees and excavate for our foundation, we will embrace the
land and to care for the land. As I returned to camp, we were greeted by
an almost full moon peeking over the horizon :^) After dinner,
my daughter Natalie and I played frisbee under the light of the moon :^).
Later that night Natalie, whose recently discovered Christianity, read some
passages from the youth Bible she has obtained on her own and we had some very
insightful, productive discussions based on this. (This is the first time we've
had such discussions and when I posed questions (mostly asking what the a phrase
or passage meant to HER) I found her reflections to be quite positive. Having
been exposed to many Christian religious organizations in my youth, I had
feared that she might be taking one person's or organization's viewpoint and
not developing her own ideas, but found that once prompted, she is developing
some very beautiful insights of her own. We also spoke of why I was getting
up to greet the sun in the morning, and although she didn't want to get up to
join me ;^), it was nice to offer her another spiritual viewpoint of great
respect for our natural environment.
I got up about an hour before dawn on Saturday and just sat and watched the
sky light up, greeted the sun as it rose and went for a walk around the land
again. Returned to camp and sat down to read "Blessingway".
After only a couple of pages, I was visited by two young bucks :^). I watched
them for about two minutes before my dogs noticed them :^/.
Cleared trees saturday, camped under full moon sat night, finished clearing and
stacking on Sunday.
A very tired and happy Glenn :^)

295.67 | What a hike | BSS::MNELSON | No Time To Hate | Tue Jul 06 1993 15:03 | 44 |
|
Headed up to do some hiking. Met up with rfb at Southpark (Alma's
Other Bar). After many beverages we returned to Tumbledown for a
nightcap. I finally realized that I had become a total weeble and
decided to lay down before I fell down. I was major league stressed
that night and really overdid it for a pre-hike night.
Woke up with a world class hangover and 3 14'ers to hike. Byron, Holly
and I grabbed some chow and headed for Kite Lake. There were
considerable snow fields on the trail so we decided to ascend through
some major talus fields straight up Democrat Mountain (14,200+ feet).
It is pretty scary climbing in that stuff with all the slipping of rocks.
The summit was pretty windy so we did not stay long. Chowed down a
sandwich and some powerbars and started heading down. I was able to
glasade(sp) down several hundred foot stretches, which was a ball.
We had to crosss over Cameron Mountain (13,900+ foot summit) and then
up Lincoln (14286 feet). The view was spectacular, looking down on
Prosser Valley on one side, Montgomery reservior on another and soaring
peaks all around.
The weather started taking a turn for the worse and we knew we had to
make some time. The temp dropped to 30ish and we started geeting hit
with intermittent snow showers. The wind started picking up to huge
gusts.
We headed across an easy ridge heading for Bross (14200+ feet) and weather
kept getting worse. The weather report sited gusts in excess of 90 mph in
colorado that day. We were with 100 yards of the summit when we got
together to decide whether to go on. We agreed to do it, so we dropped
our packs and scurried to the summit. The snow was now blowing
straight across the summit and really hurt any exposed skin.
We made the decision to skip the trail back and glasade down a huge snow
field. We probably descended over 1000 feet in that fashion and it was
both exhilirating and frightening. I slid down the majority of it on my
butt and was really cranking in some spots.
We made it down safely with a full round trip time of 6 hours 18
minutes. This is the second hike I've done with these folks and both
have had incredibly extreme conditions both times. All in all a grate
trip.

295.72 | Got a big race, I'll take anything for luck | MILKWY::SAMPSON | Driven by the wind | Fri Aug 27 1993 10:03 | 26 |
| This weekend we've got a big race! The PHRF New England Championships
are being held out of Marblehead and there will probably be between 90 to
120 boats competing. The participants will probably be split into 6 or 8
fleets and they'll run 2 courses/starting lines. We usually end up starting
in the first fleet at the slower line. We have the distinct disadvantage
of be rated faster than many boats in the fleet but that rating does not
reflect reality, with an identical hull and keel rated 6 seconds slower than
us as well as some tricked out racers to which we owe 12 second per mile.
We have to push that over rated, heavy, cruiser with small sails faster
and harder than we've figured out.
The weather forecast is now for 15-25 knots out of the southeast, small
craft advisories. Marblehead being on the north shore means that the seas
will be fairly large, probably breaking over the bow a lot when on the wind.
Down wind is going to be surf city with a spinnaker up and big seas. I don't
want to broach and I don't want to be washed off the foredeck (that's my
job).
So I'm facing a day of great intensity tomorrow and am seeking vibes
of success and safety. With two DECheads on board any vibes you can give will
be twice as powerful (kinda like the matching gift policy :-)). So wish
us luck and root for Aventure every time you look up and see the trees
bending tomorrow!

The wedding went great -- someone up there put in a good word for us and we
were blessed by beautiful weather for our outdoor ceremony and nothing
worthwhile for America's_Funniest_Home_Videos :-)
The honeymoon was even better (albeit too short). Musta been asked a hundred
times if I feel different after the wedding. Nope, not a bit. Only thing is
that 3300 miles feels a lot farther after two amazing weeks of togetherness
(after 11 months apart). Six more weeks 'til Dori finishes her internship and
comes back to the Right Coast. YAHOO!
