...talked breifly to John Ryan last nite, and was telling him a bit about how
morale was pretty piss-poor at DEC these days, and that tensions seem running
high in Grateful more often not, too. He made me priomise to pass on the
following Ryanism (tm) to "set y'all straight", perspektive-wise (apologies for
not relating this as well as John did to me)...

Seems there was this little girl, around six years old who needed an operation
and had a rare blood type. She would die without this operation. Turns out
her older brother who was nine had the right kinda blood, and their parents
went to the little guy and explained to him that without his blood, his sister
would die, but that he didn't have to give the blood if he didn't want to; it
was his choice and nobody could force him to do it unwillingly. The boy bravely
agreed, though he admitted he was very scared.

During the transfusion, the little boy was laying there next to his sister, all
wired up with blood flowing through tubes going this way and that. He looked up
and asked the doctor: "when am I going to die?".

Apparently, noone had bothered to tell him he was going to live through the
procedure. Pretty strong stuff; the kid's love of his sister was stronger than
his own will to live...

that John Ryan, just when you are convinced he's a raging lunitic, he
comes up with stuff that makes you realize we need more lunitics.......

Ah yes, John Ryan.

I remember when I first met him.... drivin' that old VW Squareback... at some
hotel in Colo Springs. the first question he asked me out of the hotel was
great, but not something i feel comfortable repeating here...... then, off to
RFB's we went, John leading the way, for a fun-filled afternoon... ....

memories....

if anyone sees him, please extend a hello from me.

Ok. Everyone read "The Road Less Travelled" by M. Scott Peck over this
weekend. There'll be a 10 question essay test right here on Monday. ;-)

P.S. Obviously just kidding, but I have some thoughts on this, which,
if and when they ever form into whole sentences, I'll contribute. It's
funny you mentioned this one, because I stumbled into it this weekend
and got to thinking that it was time to write something here. Next
time, maybe it'll be something real.

Watching the loss of so many here, it seems appropriate to say
    something here, this week.

    Long P.S., huh?

Ah Tim! An EXCELLENT book! I highly recommend it to anyone!

My perception of love was not love at all. This book was the
beginning of my understanding. I'd always looked at love as
the ability to change someone. If you loved them/they loved
you, you could change them, or they could change you. What
a bunch of hooey that was! I don't know when/where/why/how
I'd gotten that stuck in my brain!

Unconditional love is such a wonderful feeling (I think everyone
in here knows what I'm trying to describe here -- since it seems
undescribable at this moment). I can't begin to put a definition
on love, as it means so many different things in so many different
instances, but I know what it *isn't* (at least to me) now.

I'm overwhelmed at times by the power of real love. I
often attribute it to my new found love for the earth. A walk
through the forest, a hazy orange sunset, a peaceful stream,
the stars and moon, a look at the world from a mountaintop, and
a small delicate flower fighting the power of the cold of winter --
all these things have become so important.

It saddens me to think that the human race isn't more accepting
to love. I watch the birds, horses, cats, dogs, and other wildlife
around me and how they love and wonder why we aren't more like them,
why we set standards for who/what we can love, and how much we can
love them/it. If society doesn't agree, the love is outcast.

Love is love, and not fade away . . .

Say the word and you'll be free
Say the word and be like me
Say the word I'm thinking of
Have you heard the word is LOVE
	Its so fine
	Its sunshine
	Its the word LOVE

	In the begining I mis-understood
But now I got it the word is good

Spread the word and you'll be free
Spread the word and be like me
Spread the word I'm thinking of
Have you heard the word is LOVE
	Its so fine
	Its sunshine
	Its the word LOVE

Everywhere I go I hear it said
In the good and bad books that I have read

Say the word and you'll be free
Say the word and be like me
Say the word I'm thinking of
Have you heard the word is LOVE
	Its so fine
	Its sunshine
	Its the word LOVE

Now that I know what I feel must be right
I'm here to show everybody the light

Give the word the chance to say
Let the word its just the way
Its the word I'm thinking of
And the only word is LOVE
	Its so fine
	Its sunshine
	Its the word LOVE

	SAY THE WORD LOVE !

252.16wedding reading suggestions?TERAPN::PHYLLISin the shadow of the moonThu Jun 24 1993 16:2113

I have to give a reading at a wedding of friends in August and I'm
looking for suggestions. I don't want anything biblical or at all
religious. I've been hoping something will hit me that I'll feel is
perfect.. I'll remember a poem or something.. but so far nothing has
and all of a sudden August doesn't seem so far away. Any ideas? Or
poets/books/authors/anything to check out? Spiritual is good.. light
.. love.. peace.. anything about a soul alone and then two souls
together.. Something that makes you feel all glowy when you read it.
    ;-)

thanks in advance for any ideas..

dissapeared. I guess the conference host tied the knot. :-)

Well, I can suggest what _not_ to read, like Orangebook section 6.23. :-)

Now you will feel no rain,
For each of you will be shelter
       to the other.

Now you will feel no cold,
For each of you will be
       warmth to the other.

Now there is no loneliness for you,
Now there is no more loneliness,
Now there is no more loneliness.
  Now you are two persons
but there is one life before you

  Go now to your dwelling-place
  To enter into the days
       of your togetherness.

  And may your days be

252.20Omar KhayyamPOWDML::MACINTYREFri Jun 25 1993 09:159
Read "The Prophet". It contains many wonderfully insightful passages
    concerning love, marriage, children...

I used a passage as a basis for the toast I presented at my sister's
wedding last November. If I can find it in my files I'll post it as a
    reference.

>However, those pillars must also stand apart, retaining their own

> Today we celebrate the union of two hearts and souls. May
>the bonds of love and marriage give strength to each of you as
>you begin your lives together. We offer our love and friendship
>to support your journey through the years.
>
> Praise one another, share your lives and give thanks for all
>the moments of love and joy you are sure to share. Ladies and
>gentlemen, raise you glasses and join me as I give you John and
>Suzanne Souza!

The first para is a direct reference to Khayyam's discussion on marriage.
It should give you a taste of his insight.

It's a fun thing to do for a friend/relative. Toasts and readings can
be things they'll remember forever whether they are well done or not.
    Good luck,

    Glenn,

When I got into work this morning, my 1st email was that same blessing
sent to me by a friend in Cal who had it read at her ceremony! I loved
it when I read it then, and I love it now. Synchronicity! :-)

The Prophet definately has a lot of beautiful passages in it - thanks
    for the reminder, Marv.

Of course it's all moot now - I'm gonna read whatshisnames's theorem.
;-) Maybe we can attach little sliderules to the seating cards. :-)
