| Ace (as in Bob Weir?) named his dog Otis I believe
At least that was his dogs name in 1980 or so. Don't know
if Otis is still kicking, gets kicked, or kicked it yet though.

I believe Otis went to the great kennel several years ago.

I've seen quite a few elk here in colo, but never seen an elk with a
dog!

I think, if this is the same tape, Phil yells at some guy hanging from
a railing and says something like - "We don't care if you hurt yourself
but we do care if you fall on other people". I even think they mention
something about what the people around him must think of him for causing
a show stoppage (but not sure about that).

| I was at the show at SPAC when that happened... the guy was litterally
hanging off the balcony and security tried to get to him but couldn't
so in between songs Phil and Bob asked the guy to get back in his seats
requesting his friends to help him do this.... and yep, they mentioned
they you can do to yourself what ever you want, but if you fall on
someone else.....
I think Bob used that joke more than once....

Does not surprize me. I have several tapes from as early as '71 telling the
NY crowd to behave (move back, etc)...

Yea, remember when they had to ask the crowd to move back in Foxboro,
MASSACHUSETTS? Or when someone threw a beer bottle on stage in Providence,
RHODE ISLAND? Maybe these states are too close to New York, or it was
all the New Yorkers in the crowd, yea - that's probably it. :-)

Doesn't surprise me either. I have several tapes from as early as '87
with JC complaining about NY on them. :-)

Whatsa difference whether it was NY, MA, RI, CONN ... it's pretty much

| Yes, I remember the foxboro show when they said it is time to move back (my
tape does not have that part!).
The northeast crowd tends to lack some general respect in comparision to,
say, the Colorado crowd that I experienced last December.
Has anyone ever heard any "gate-storming" stories that occurred in the West or
the South?

Sorry 'bout that. :-) Caught me by surprise. Don't usually start the decks
rolling until after Jerry turns around. :-) Kinda tough to see around that
big'ol soundboard, ya know. So, rather than record it cut, I let it go. Want
I should locate a copy and use it for filler on the Fall tour tapes? :-)

I have an old bootleg album of an old Hollywood Palladium show that starts
off with a distorted Bertha. After the song and crowd applause Bobby speaks:
"Hey you down there with the microphone, if you want to get a decent recording,
you're going to have to move back about 40ft." Next song, 'Playin', is defi-
nately a little clearer sounding.

This is indeed 8-6-71 ... this tape does sound decent after the guy moves
back (i believe my copy was mastered by the taper Bob spoke too)
